I have been driving DD to school every morning since the 8th grade. Now, as a HS junior, she has earned the *privilege to her own vehicle. I have now been relegated to “no longer necessary” status.....
This transition seems to be typical, reasonable and perfectly normal.
So why am I having so much trouble with this?
*Edited to replace the word "right" with "privilege"

I'm sorry daddioe - it's tough to see those steps away.
Interesting, DD has always hated riding the bus (riding home) saying the boys are creepy and make inappropriate sexual comments.
True or not, she *knows* what works well with me... :-)

We had some trouble with it here too. Until we realized how
For the same reason this mama has so much trouble letting her adult sons grow wings? Fear of not feeling needed any more? ;)
Hang in there daddioe, she still needs her daddy, just in a different way now.

The other part is, getting used to silent mornings in the car now.
That was our time. I heard what was going on with school, friends, and more importantly, what was going on in her head.
I'm not ready to be an "armchair dad" yet! Keep me off the shelf for a couple more years please! lol..
Thanks all, for your responses and understanding..
I'll try not to sulk now... :-)
Oh gosh daddio ... after these past three days, I'd gladly hand over the car keys to DD! At this point, my backside bears a strong resemblance in shape and size to the drivers' seat in my car.
Sadly, we're still more than a month away from even a learners' permit, however ...
Hang in there -- of course you DD still needs you! As Pam said, she'll always be you're little girl ... heard that Tim McGraw song?

Awww...trust me, you're still useful. She has to get her gas, insurance and maintenance money from SOMEBODY doesn't she? Just look forward to those long, heartfelt discussions as you take out your chequebook time after time...its not the end its a new beginning....

GROAN....
Maybe we can have those heartfelt discussions as she changes the oil or works on the transmission herself.......
Awww... my little grease monkey... :-)
