I vote for having a serious sit-down with Max, as opposed to taking away the keys. Who knows if your son was actually driving as poorly as the lady described? That would only be her opinion, would it not? But I also think it's a good time to remind Max that other people are watching, so tell him to please be careful and drive safely!

She also sounds like she could be a meddlesome trouble maker if she wanted. It drives me crazy when someone is willing to drop a little bomb (like telling you that "someone" saw him tailgating) and then temporizes and won't back it up because "it isn't my place". Sounds almost like a gossip monger if you ask me.
