We took the Amtrak up to Chicago to see Wicked. Yes, on Friday, the day of the collision with the freight train up there. Our train wasn't involved but we had multiple hold ups and rail changes to accommodate(which certainly beats being in it-not complaining)
The conductor never told us there was an accident which was interesting-said something about a defective track ahead?????? With cell phones, the info on the accident had been quickly shared and, frankly, I found 'defective track' more frightening!
The opened the doors to let smokers smoke but wouldnt let anyone off
Wicked was awesome and we shopped a bit on Saturday-snow started coming down. It was so quaint until it turned to ice
But, we made it home fine and DH gallantly chipped away at our ice encased car at the Amtrak station back home while I sat snug as a bug inside
Today is just rainy and dreary. Not nearly bad enough for DH to put up Xmas lights. We have a running 'joke'that he waits until the worst weather day of the year so he can complain more
STL (yes, in the Midwest, even though my mom from Chicago doesn't think so!) is just wet; but we've gone from the 60s and rain to very blustery and expecting 20s overnight. Just a good day to curl up with a book or good movie.

We had some freezing rain in Central IL yesterday morning--bad enough that lots of stuff was cancelled.

Well, we've pretty much survived, though anything that was planned for yesterday or early today was cancelled rather than having people on the roads.
Glad to hear you're all weathering the storms, warm and dry.
Not from the midwest US but....that weather system just travelled over the Great Lakes into Southern Ontario today.
Oh my ... that sounds dreadful!
