I was wondering if any of you would like to know about a community service we started when my dad was hospitalized on a holiday.

All the hospitals here have similar events, especially the children's hospital.
There are also events at the Shelters downtown, events for new Canadians in various community centers. The schools distribute food baskets to needly families in the areas. We have a drive to collect money for winter clothes each year plus the local malls have "giving trees" to buy presents for kids. There are drives here to make sure kids have skates & helmets for the winter (which reminds me.. have to bring some skates downtown..)

That's a great idea.

That's a great idea, but one word of caution to anyone who wants to duplicate the event - be sure you check with the hospital's volunteer coordinator before you show up.

Oh, yes, that is such an important point:

You went about it the right way sunny - I only tossed my comments in because every year it seems there is at least one group that tries to do something without going through official channels and it ends up causing all kinds of problems.

Thanks again bunnie--you really brought out a critical point.

That's okay that you "just" donate toys.
