Ok, as if I don't brag enough, I have more.....I THINK my son got the job he interviewed for.....as summer hire for our department.

We have to contract w/ a temp agency for the summer hires, so they sent him over there, and told him he'd start 6-4---BUT he hasn't had an official interview. Our Human Resource mgr spoke to him and indicated that the Manager that T was to interview with was called into a meeting and he needed to come back at 1....

But the brag news is this: The human resource guy called me and complimented me on my DS---said T met the personnel mgr with a firm hand shake and looked him in the eye.....The HR guy said he'd been dealing w/ teens all day, and my son impressed him greatly and if there would have been even only ONE job, that T would be his first choice. He wore a white shirt, burgundy tie and black pants......the HR guy complimented his appearance and said he was a handsome boy as well as being impressive on the first meeting......

I am thrilled....he acts like SUCH a teen with me, it's like looking into a different world when OTHER people see your kid in real world situations, and they do FINE....even WELL.......I just imagine him grunting and rolling his eyes to EVERYONE....not just me....

I'm tickled that at least he knows how to schmooze......Oh...the HR guy said he was hesitant at first about putting a 16 yr old in the area that needs help...it isn't HARD work but it is important and detail oriented work....but he said after meeting my DS he isn't hesitant any more.....woo hoo!!

Thanks SO MUCH for listening to me the last week about my constant worry and concern about his choices (sports) and his interview.....you guys have been awesome to put up w/ the obsessive nature of this mom.....thanks again!!

Great news - both the job and the "grown up" teenager you've raised!!

Here's a hint on doing the job - my teen intern is driving me a little bit crazy because she chats all the time, and is enjoying the social environment of the office a bit too much. Give T a tip that bosses really appreciate staff (adults or teens) who spend more time working than talking!

Great news!! You raised him up right!

And I do have to agree with whoever it was that commented on teen interns socializing too much on the job... sorry, I do think I'm getting old timer's or something.

Talking too much... In contrast to my work experience situations, where the feedback I got was 'not very communicative'. What on earth does that mean? I didn't talk? I wasn't aware that I was supposed to talk!

I tell you now, everyone in that office looked at me like I was interrupting them at defusing a bomb when I asked for help.

I hated that placement. Oh yeah, and my boss for the week had written comments in my log book over the week, but I get it back and the pages are stuck together - because the white-out on her comments hadn't dried yet. She'd gone back and whited out (or yellowed out) all her previous comments and written negative ones instead.

Please, anyone who takes on work experience kids - don't treat them like I was treated.

There is no excuse for not helping the interns out when they need something explained either... we do have a few people who tend to treat these kids like they're either a threat to their own jobs or simply an annoyance... and I do my darnedest not to place the kids with them because it ends up being a bad experience for everyone - me included.
