I can't believe there is another shooting like this at a University.

This shooting was the fourth at a US school within a week.

On Feb. 8, a woman shot two fellow students to death before committing suicide at Louisiana Technical College in Baton Rouge.

In Memphis, Tenn., a 17 year old is accused of shooting and critically wounding a fellow student monday during a high school gym class, and the 15-year-old victim of a shooting at an Oxnard, Calif., junior high school has been declared brain dead.

This is madness.

So very tragic, I'm so sad for everyone involved. I just don't know what the answer is.

Pam, where does your DS go to school?

I believe Pam's son is at Northwestern, in the Chicago area. Being from Chicago, I had a number of friends who went to NIU, but that was ages ago. This is all so tragic.

I echo the sentiments of all you ladies. It is tragic and I feel for those poor parents and all the students and faculty at the university.

What I find also distressing that the report of the shooting didn't make the front page here. It wasn't even the lead story on the news last night. Granted, this is not the US but I fear that the public are no longer shocked by these events.

It's a tough call! With the Virginia Tech shooter the families finally requested putting an end to the media coverage because it was giving the shooter what he wanted-fame and glory with his face plastered all over the media. Obviously, he was dead but they felt it might encourage others to strive for the recognition

So, its hard to say which is the reason behind this. I hope it out of respect for the families and not 'oh, well, another one'

How absolutely horrible. It's a shock each and every time there is violence at a school, where ever in the world. My thoughts and prayers go out to each and every victim, their families, friends, teachers and classmates.

I suspect it is out of respect. Although we are a different country with a different culture, I doubt it is just a case of `yet another shooting in the US`. We have had our own school shootings (Dawson, for example) and last week, we had an event in a high school in Toronto. It was a false alarm but it did make the news.

Whatever the reasons, I am sure that us up here in Canada share the grief of our American friends.
