DH's entire family is descending on Colorado for the Thanksgiving holiday, and somehow it was decided that 'I' am hosting.

Errg … I have lost this post twice already!
I keep losing my posts, too!
But daddioe, I thought men were genetically predisposed to be able to cook anything over coal and have it turn out perfectly!! ;)
ROFL Rose!
That's just what we tell women. The pressure is enormous. Who ever invented that silly
Good luck with your dinner, Julie.
I'll be doing my first turkey ever at age 52--that's pretty bad. I hope my 90 yo mom can find her stuffing recipe--absolutely the best, more meaty than starchy--when I visit her in WI this week. I'd settle for a ham except they're always so darn salty; maybe the turkeys come salted too now. At least there'll be only 6 of us and everyone knows I can't cook so I don't have to worry about what they think! The corn casserole looks like something I can handle, will definitely try that.
If anyone knows of turkey/ham brands that are low salt, pref. <300 mg, please let me know. (I used to always buy Cumberland Gap 40% less salt, but they don't supply any grocery stores here in VA.)

Hey thanks, Janet!
Due to low sodium requirements of some family members, I've always just bought fresh non-frozen turkeys. Even with the fresh ones, you should make sure they haven't been injected with a basting solution.
I've never found a frozen turkey I liked.
VA is good, thanks. It was strange having the biggest issue on election day being transportation--it is just sooooo congested here. I try to drive only between 10 and 3. We're still trying to get settled and figure out where to put stuff. I brought way too much. We had a huge kitchen in MI and now everything is crammed in. I'm sure Goodwill will be getting a lot more as I decide this will never work. We're in a very nice neighborhood with the metro and a park less than a 5-minute walk away, but the quality of construction of the townhouse leaves a lot to be desired. Our home in MI was a whole lot better.
We did sell our house at a loss, but none of the other four homes in our neighborhood have sold, so we feel fortunate. (The guy who bought ours still has his unsold--it's listed $50K below what he paid for it.) So DS is flying here from MI Thanksgiving morning. We'll also have our DS24, my sister and her SO. It's great being close to relatives again, but we don't have quite as many around as you.

Thanks for the tip. Sounds like something I'll need to call ahead for.
I was reading some recipes online and there's lots of praise for the brined turkeys, but I'm just afraid they'll turn out so salty we won't like it. For us it's a taste preference rather than a health necessity.
