How do I block Myspace from my computer?
| Mon, 05-07-2007 - 1:26pm |
My 14 yo DD has a myspace account which I found by accident. I want to begin blocking it from my computer without her knowledge. I want to avoid confrontation with her at this point and just make her think something is going on with the computer. I have noticed a virus which was caught by my PC-Cillin software. It was a video and it was probably from her being my myspace. I have windows XP and she has her own user account. Thanks.

That is true, I guess for me, I can see how active their accounts are, they are sending and recieving things all of the time, so for me...I doubt it :) Also, I guess I'm lucky that I can easily say, that my boys and their friends spend most of their time here :) Myspace and all are blocked at their schools too :)
Thanks for the response :)

After hearing for quite some time about all of her friends having a myspace, I finally allowed my 14 yo to get one. HOWEVER... there are major rules. I helped her set it up and set it where the only people who can see her site are those that she allows. She can ONLY have friends on her myspace that SHE KNOWS. She is not allowed to delete any messages, comments or instant messages. She also knows that at any time there will be a computer check. At that time... I will go through all messages or anything that I choose to do... she has NO say in the matter. I also set up a myspace of my own and surprisingly all of her friends have added me as their friends. I monitor all of them. lol.
By setting up all of the rules ahead of time, she knew what she was getting into... does she like it... probably not. Does she fight it. No. She wants the fun of getting to chat with her friends and having a space that's all her own to decorate and put music to and post pictures... and I allow it because I can see daily that she does know everyone who is in her site. As a matter of fact... she denied 2 people as her friends because although she kind of knew them from school, she didn't really know them. Maybe I'm just lucky that I've got a daughter who'll respect the rules that I've set down.
Good luck!
