Our pediatrician asked ds15 if he was getting 'at least 8 hours/night' when we went to his checkup in August. That seems to not be enough for him; he's usually getting around 9 and still complains of being tired (he also had mono last/this year). But he also swims over 10,000 yards/day for the HS swim team 6 days/week.

I don't think you are out of the ordinary at all. My kids both love to sleep in on the weekends. Kelsie now gets up earlier because she is on a schedule due to her sleep apnea and other sleeping problems, but she would love to sleep in late and always has until recently.

I am a late sleeper too, when I was a teen I did the same thing. I've always been a night owl, when I was a teen, in the summer I would stay up half the night and sleep half the day unless there was some reason I needed to be up. If I could now I would be up until 3-4 every night and get up at 11-12. Unfortunatly it doesn't work that way.

So no I don't think you are different than a lot of families.

My 13 yo DD needs 10 hours a night...that's about what she gets during the week.

Your house sounds pretty much in sync with the rest of the average households with teenagers.

so what would you do if your daughter didn't go to bed until midnight?
