We've never done this at the middle/high school level, only elementary. Occasionally, if older DS has an extraordinary teacher, we send in a little something homemade, etc.

Personally, I think it's more than just a little rude for the school to be holding their hand out for a Teacher's Christmas Fund and just a tad presumptuous as well!

We have always given a little something to the teacher our child has felt close to or who has gone above and beyond to help our child through a rough spot with her work. I certainly would not reward teachers across the board as all teachers are not created equal IMO. We have had a few duds over the years and I would not want them to be rewarded if their best efforts have left us wanting, kwim??

If I were presented with this scenario, I would likely forego the communal 'gift fund' and give my own personal gift if I felt inclined to do so. There are plenty of places to buy teacher related supplies and present them in a nice gift basket to that special teacher if you feel the need. But that's me.

Why would they put names on the card at all?

I would not consider contributing given the fact that your dd's may not have a present under the tree for them this year, as per your prior post.

We get teacher gifts when the student only has a couple of teachers....usually until middle school.

I would recomend that if any of the teacher's have been especially good to your dds that you send them a card with a note thanking them for whatever they have done, or encouraged, etc your dd's.

I cant believe they have The gallto ask. I would give a dollar each and make sure your childs name is on the card. How rude to not either list EVERYONES NAME OR NONE AT ALL period. It is a way to make sure you give imho by singling out those stydents by NOT seeing their name on the card, They are suppose to nurish the WHOLE student. How are you doing that if your family can't afford and your childs name is (OH im so upset i cant think of the word) conspiuoisly off the card!

Very strange and I agree rude. Here, teachers are well paid, especially high school teachers.
Their salaries are above average plus they get 6 weeks off in the summer plus a generous pensions plus great benefits.

No one gives high school teachers presents here.
