Have a 10 yr old asking about Santa. How old were your kids when they no longer believed???
How do I explain it? My daughter is sure that "parents wouldn't LIE to their kids"!!!!!
What do I say?

I'm not sure the story of St Nick.
Maybe I should get them to watch "Miracle on 34th" ----
in any case, with everyone's prompting here, I'm going to try to snag "Yes, Virginia" from the library this week - thanks!!!!

I think my DS17 was about 9 when he figured things out. We talked about the real St Nicholas and his good deeds and things he did for the people in his community and how the story of Santa Clause evolved from that. In our minds, the legend of Santa is something to honor the kind and generous spirit of St Nicholas. As parents we honor that idea by giving our loved ones gifts secretly during the middle of the night just as St Nicholas did. We think there is a little bit of Santa in everyone's heart, and Christmas is the time that we express it.
This satisfied him completely and he kept this "secret" from his little sister. It was kind of funny- the following Christmas he pulled me aside and announced that Christmas was more fun when you believe in Santa, so he "chose to believe again".
