UGH - my niece is SUCH a hypochondriac.
I've got one of those.
She might just be having trouble coping in some other area of her life. I say this because I used to think my DS was a hypochrondriac, too. He'd have all these weird aches and pains and spent a lot of time in the nurse's office all thru middle school. He's at a new school this year, which he loves, and he has not complained once the entire year. I really think a lot of his so-called illnesses over the past few years were just due to his misery at that school.
Maybe your niece has been using her physical symptoms to get attention the only way she can. Most of the helicopter parents I know are very good at "positioning" their child for achievements and will respond to physical issues, but they absolutely suck at meeting the child's real need for emotional support and development.
I used to have such a hypochondriac... carried over to his work life as an older teen too.
This post made me laugh, sorry to the OP.
Last night I had to run to the store to grab a box of tampons for myself.
Well, BLESS YOU for being such a charing person.
serious big hugs to you.
