I’m just sitting here late at night getting my taxes ready for the accountants tomorrow.....minding my own business.....having a cup of tea.....feeling grumpy for sending too much money to Uncle Sam...
When I come across the CD title that weenie boy was playing in his car when he drove DD and a friend to a ski park a few weeks ago.
So.....this is sort of an unusual title to a song.....and taxes are pretty boring..... so I decide to enter this song into a lyrics search.

gee.....I don’t even know where to begin..
The moron who wrote this apparently is considered an “artist.”
The idiots who played this apparently are considered “musicians.”
Weenie boy really knows how to sweep a girl off her feet with this stuff.
How romantic...

I am so livid right now I must stop typing.

It doesn't seem like it should be too much of a concern unless that's the only type of stuff she's listening too. I'm not a big

To add, I just downloaded "Colt 45." Honestly, it's pretty clear that the song has no serious intentions - it's kind of ridiculous. Anyway... sometimes it's not about what a person says, but how they say it, KWIM? I mean, Jonathan Swift wrote about killing babies to feed the poor and clothe the rich, but it is clear that A Modest Proposal isn't supposed to be taken seriously...

So if I was riding in a car and someone played it, i would totally say, "Ew, turn this crap off." If I could understand the lyrics, that is. I even just glanced through the lyrics and I didn't see anything that bad...I had to read it one line at a time to get why it was terrible.

Yeah, its a disgusting song. I wouldn't want to listen to it ever. Except, it REALLY surprises me how surprised you guys are. Like, I just expected you to have heard stuff like this before. As much as i hate the song, I can relate to you dd's "it's not a big deal".

I like the swatstica analogy. Except, part of me thinks, "It's not like i WROTE the song". It's really hard to understand that what you listen to, wear, hang out with, etc. portrays to others what you think, and how much it reveals about yourself. Like...If i thought the song was funny, and someone said, "oh, so you think treating woman like that is funny?" I would obviously say no, which would be true...except...thinking it's funny would still show that i didn't think the situation is as serious or bad as it is. Not that I actually think that, but does that make any sense? Like I might hear the song and think, "It's not like people ACTUALLY think like that...that's why it's funny". It's hard to find and pick out those false misconceptions, which is why it's hard to correct them. I probably wouldn't even admit to thinking it. I dunno if i'm making any sense, because i don't know if i really understand this. But I think alot of teens do this. It's hard to see situations as serious, when they're played down and seen as casual EVERYWHERE. And plus, i think it's insight that's grown with maturity. Okay, i officially decided i'm going to stop rambling before i make a fool of myself, if i haven't already, because im not sure what i'm talking about. lol.

One more thought... on the positive side (regarding the lyrics) - there isn't anything about "bitches, hoes or sluts" and nothing that promotes violence against women. All acts described appear consensual. There are

Payasa, you're not rambling and you don’t make a fool of yourself..:-)

If I understand you correctly, one the one hand, what you listen to and wear and who you hang out with, reveals something about yourself.
On the other hand, by not “reacting” toward gross and objectionable lyrics, you show your peers that you don’t take them seriously.

From a teen perspective, I get that.

For my generation, what we listened to, wore, and who are friends were pretty much defined everything about us. We had the jocks, stoners, band geeks, science nerds, etc. One you were pigeonholed into a group it took an act of congress to change it. Looking back on that today, it was pretty messed up.

Fortunately today, kids don’t seem to have that limitation, at least to the degree we had. Groups seem to form with a variety of different kids, with different attitudes on many things...who DO many different things.

The flip side, is that acceptance seems to have gone beyond healthy non-discrimination to an entirely new level. At the risk of sounding old, it seems taking a stand, or drawing that line in the sand doesn’t happen much anymore. My DD who is the same grade as you, has several friends with some very serious problems. As far as I know, none of the group has suggested that their behavior is wrong.
To borrow a line from Chris Rock, what they need to hear is…..: "Man...I wudent do that s** if I was you."
Apparently that would appear "judgmental" and that’s looked upon negatively.

The same concept applies to these lyrics. Pornography is not just limited to visual media. I was hoping my DD would have the same reaction listening to these words, as she would have if this guy popped a pornographic video in the VCR and said, let’s watch a movie.

By not "reacting" she may show that she doesn’t take it seriously or...
It may show a "non judgmental" attitude by not being critical of his choice of music or..
It may even show him tacit approval of the lyrics.

Payasa, I’d just ask that you consider all the ramifications of not reacting.

As a dad, I WANT DD to react....To speak out...I do NOT want a passive daughter. She has no problem speaking her mind to me. I want this to apply to ANY man in her life.

wolverine, I don't get the correlation.
The lyrics are pornography. I know we do not share the same views on pornography. That's ok...
The fact that it's non-violent pornography changes nothing.
It's conceptually no different from "politely" asking the nigger to get to the back of the bus vs. forcing him at gun point.
Both are equally humiliating and disgusting.

The multiple references to drug use didn't bother me at all.
As you point out, that's been around for years.
