Well, my DH predicted it, and I pooh poohed it away----my 16 yr old Sophomore has a last minute prom date......girl and boy break up and she suddenly has no prom date......girl likes another boy who has a date and won't back out of his date plans (GOOD BOY), so apparently my son was recruited (more than likely offered) to go in their group, allowing boy to keep his commitment to his date, lets girl (T's date) see boy (with other date) at prom, and all have fun.
Anyway, despite my bemoaning our small town--apparently things are all good for prom around here---$10 for tickets (held in the gym--just like the old days) and dinner, tux and flowers----so minimal expense compared to what I've been reading. HE's paying.....not a planned or expected expense, so he better start mowing the neighbors lawn for that extra cash!!
No staying out late (want him to double check w/ his SENIOR date that this won't rain on her parade), and make sure his girlfriend (not sure what is up w/ that) is ok---he claims it will be FINE...he's not dating the Senior, just helping her out when her date broke up w/ her (or she him). I am sort of weirded out by the 'group' mentality of the teens. I mean overall it is GREAT--less one on one time, but it seems like they don't get the one one social skills either.........
Anyway, as normal, I ramble...but my overall point is that not so expensive for prom tickets here...........

This is the first no prom year in our house in a very, very long time (I think 2000 maybe). I actually miss it - not the expense but the shopping, make-up, hair, getting dressed, pictures, etc.
I hope your DS has a wonderful time!
Wow, it's like stepping back in time - how nice! My senior's school is not having a prom this year!!
I am disappointed as is dd - she bought her own dress at $180 a couple of months ago. She attends a small charter school and the juniors and seniors voted NOT to have a prom this year due to limited expenses. I know there were other girls who already bought their dresses. Instead, on the senior trip, the chapperones are planning a dining experience OUT at a nice restaurant as part of the trip's package for the seniors only. That will be nice, but none of the parents will be present for pictures -:o(
I am hoping that dd can still get use of the dress after that.
