I guess the thing is that on top of all the things we don't like about this boy, his not dressing properly for the dance just really bothered me. His parents are divorced, so his mom wasn't around and his dad isn't around much either. I guess I just think a 17yo should know you don't go to a dance with a shirt that looked like that. He was talking to a friend on the phone who told him to go get a belt and put it on and he told him that he couldn't because he wasn't home. Thank goodness Dave had one that fit him. When he was on the phone talking to his friend he asked him do you think I really have to tuck my shirt in?
"early in their relationship, she would have gone along with whatever he showed up in"
Tell N I admire her for that. A teen who can see beyond outward appearances and who is not always worrying about what her peers think and say is a rare find.
Makes sense. You and Kelsie have never come across as people overly concerned with appearances so something else must have your neck hair up!
I worry that DS1 is picking someone incompatible with him because they view money so differently. He is 22 and I am supposed to keep my nose out but.....I worry. Im a mom! I just see this as something they are already battling over and can read the handwriting on the wall. Who wants that kind of future for their kiddo?
He is doing a second interview for a promotion in Jan. Soon as S heard he was applying, she got out the calculator and figured what he could spend on an engagement ring now(3 months salary-not sure how they are supposed to pay bills minus 3 mos salary)and immediately started looking at more expensive apartments!!!
They moved in together to share expenses but it has turned into DS paying the bills and S using her income for internet connected Blackberrys and Uggs.
And, yep, right about now I could get set off by which way she combed her bangs!!
Does it really matter how he dresses. As long as he is good kid that treats your daughter with respect, that`s all that matters. He can quite smoking. He can shave. He can learn to make himself more presentable.
Also, these days even people with money don`t dress up. We are far from being poor and my DS does not have dress shoes or dress pants or a jacket. He doesn`t need dress up clothes. They would only gather dust in his closet, a waste of money.

You know there are a few things beyond "parental indifference" and "disrespect" when it comes to not really caring about one's appearance.

Good points..

I understand Kristie, his inappropriate dress for the evening was just "one more thing."
Talking about ironing a shirt reminds me...
a couple of years ago T was going to his 8th grade dance.
