I’m just full of posts today! Just wondering… How old is your teen, and does he/she still tell you they love you? In front of friends? My dd is 13, and I’ve noticed just in the past few weeks that she won’t say it to me in front of her friends anymore. I still say it, though. I picked up one her friends last night to take them to a movie, and the girl said it to her mom in front of us, and she’s almost 15. I thought it was sweet and was a little jealous! Also, I’ve heard that they may stop saying it in front of their friends for a while, but the usually get over the embarrassment. Did your teen do that, and how long did it take for them to say it again?

my dd never stopped saying i love u are giving hugs and kisses and most of her friends used to tell me they loved me too b/c they spent alot of time at our house and she had been friends with all of thtem for many years before we moved away....we are a very affectionate family and always have been.....but lately...(she'll be 18 in a few days) it seems like her responces with i love yous and hugs are just automatic and dont really mean alot, i know she loves me and everything but i understand how u feel when they dont say it at all it is not much different than when they do say it and it seems like they only say it b/c its automatic responce to u saying it or they just want u to be quiet about something and hope saying it will make u happy and u will shut up...lol....guess its one of those weird teen things...that we dont understand...one of those stages they go through....

Yes, my DD went through about 2 years of not telling me that she loved me. She recently started becoming a nicer person overall. She cheerfully greets me in the morning, gives me a kiss good-night, and tells me she loves me! She's away at camp and she called and ended the conversation by telling me that she loves me. She's 15.5 now. Wait it out. It'll work out. I remember being discouraged by her attitudes a year ago. My sister told me that she'd turn around by 18, so I am thrilled that the changes are sooner rather than later. She still has moody outbursts once in awhile or over-reacts to things, but she apologizes now for those moments and is under much better self-regulation.
