Have you told him that his actions wont get him a good job in computer engineering? Nor will it get him into a good school, which will make it easier for him to get the career he wants? Maybe you should have him shadow a computer engineer or something so that he can see that it takes a lot of work.
Even if he recieved credit for the class, I reccommend him retaking the class that he got a D in. I don't mean this in a rude way, but in the college's eyes a "D" might as well be a "F". At least if he retakes it and gets at least a high B, the college will at least see that he has tried and improved.
Sadly, we are now testing that "Is D a passing grade" theory. In our school district, ds15 currently has a 65.8 in Spanish and his progress report states "F". So, our school does not even *recognize* a grade of D. Anything below a 70 (C) is an F.
