I'm trying....

Dd is now finishing her 3rd week of missing school for mono. She did manage to go 2 partial days last week and 1 full (for her) day this week. Luckily, they did have 2 snow days this week and they are on Vacation all next week, but still she has practically missed 3 weeks - for this semester she has sat in her new classes all of 3 days. Bless her heart, she is trying - she woke up Tuesday morning with all intention of going to school - she just couldn't do it. She had planned on going this morning - no go. I don't know how she is going to pull this off!! She is getting so depressed over this whole thing. She was soooo looking forward to trying lacrosse this spring - I guess that's not going to happen. She was invited to compete with the all-star cheerleaders thoughout the spring and summer which would have made her a shoo-in for varsity next year (her dream) - doesn't look like that will happen. We had wanted to go on a vacation with her dad coming home, but we can't do that with all the school she's already been missing.

I know I just need to be there for her, but I'm so hurt and overwhelmed for her. She's so devastated. And it's not her over-exaggerating either - this child loves school, she loves being with her friends. And today was when all the roses got delivered since they missed Valentine's Day because of the snow day - so I KNOW it's not exaggerated.

Just whining here, sorry!!! This child's bad luck as got to end soon!!

Kim,

I'm so sorry you and your dd are going through this! But can't (or didn't) the school make arrangements to have her do the make-up work at home? Or was your dd even too sick to work at home? No advice to give you - just sending along some hugs and sympathy!

Thanks Amelia - Her teachers have sent home some stuff - like worksheets and her writing assignments for honors english. But she has missed a ton of quizzes, tests, labs for science, movies for health, etc etc and it just keeps on adding up.... idk she is such a mess but she is trying so hard not to let it show :(

Thanks for the sympathy...it's much appreciated!

Your poor dd. She's been thru the wringer on this, hasn't she? Whine away (heaven knows, I've done MY share of whining on this board...that's what it's here for!!) It's always so hard to watch our kids suffer. Here's hoping she recovers soon. {{{{hugs}}}}

Hugs to you and your DD. Poor girl. One of my friends in college got mono, ended up leaving school for a semester because she just couldn't get it together. Don't know what the answer is in hs though.

Sorry your DD's feeling so bad still. Is there any way she would feel up to and the school would let her go in for a couple of hours a day to make up some of the testing? Do it maybe a couple or three times a week until she was able to do a full day?

Just a thought.

Hope she's feeling better soon.

What they suggested for my ds14, after the worst was over, naturally, was to go to school and then head to the nurse's office to nap as needed, but at least try to stick out the full day in the building, going to as much class as possible. (Thankfully he never missed any class; at the point of the worst tiredness, they were still telling him it was a lingering virus; we didn't find out about the mono til he was on the mend)
