Insight into mom/teen communication

I had the funniest interaction with DD tonight that revealed more about our personalities and our expectations about each other!
DD got home around 4:45, and was doing homework when I got home around 6. At 6:15 she said she was going to the gym to work out, and I said "aren't you going to eat dinner?" and she said "I guess NOT" with a sigh. For some reason, deeply rooted in my mom-guilt and twisted psyche, I assumed she was blaming ME for her not having dinner, and I said (a little angry) "You've been here for over an hour, you could have eaten". She took a deep breath, and said "I wasn't blaming you. I just don't want to eat so close to working out, that's all"
So, all the guilt/blame was on me! And my 15yo DD was the grown up here, defusing the "fight" before it even started! LOL
Guess next time, I'm the one who needs the deep breath!

AAAhhhh, I think you just saw a glimpse of the adult she's going to become in a few years!
I had to snicker at this... what a great insight to a few things!! I love when things like this happen between my daughters and I - I always learn so much.
