The "hanging out at G's house" that DD spoke to me about on Monday did indeed fall apart as you predicted! Instead DD and three other girls came back to our neighborhood, ate lunch in a diner, and came back to our house. They played a kids/family game called CONGA that my DS7 got for his birthday; they took silly picture's with somone's camera phone; and they ate alot of junk food!

I feel like I dodged a bullet. I know if DH and I say "we forbid" her to go to a boy's house, since we can't enforce it, we'd be putting her in a position of sneaking and lying. If she had come home today and said she did it anyway, I'd be torn (mad at her going against our wishes, glad she told the truth about it). So, at least for right now, I didn't have to deal with it!

I'm glad you posted an update Sue, because I did wonder today how this all came down and just popped in to see if you had. I'm happy it worked out in such a stress-free way for you. It sounds like your DD had fun, too.

I know what you mean about trying to 'enforce' things to our kids when they're so far away from home for most of the day! There just isn't much we can do as parents at such a distance besides hope and believe we've taught them well and that they will make good choices!

DD told me of a friend of hers at school whose parents 'make her' stay in the library and do her homework until they pick her up after school. DD is often with her, so it is 2-3 hours usually. I don't know how the parents can enforce this, or how they know if she actually DID do her homework in the library or if she did it at a table in the courtyard, but DD says the friend does exactly what her parents tell her! Huh. I have to think the consequences of being disobedient must be pretty severe for her to obey them so completely. I wouldn't care WHERE DD got her homework done if that was my priority so long as it actually GOT done.

But ... I'm wandering off here! I'm glad everything worked out well! How many more days left before school is out for the summer? DD has 1/2 day finals today thru Friday (and she is stressing!) and then she's done!
