Leaving California

Some of you may remember my post from nearly a year ago about relocating teenage children to a different state. In our case, this would be Colorado, where a BIL and his family lives.
Well, it looks like it's going to happen! After a long eight-months on the market, and less than two weeks before our official "throw-in-the-towel" date, we got an acceptable offer on our home and went into escrow. It all happened SO fast.
Last Friday, DH and DD flew from San Diego to Denver. They had a list of about 10 homes to look at, all that we found thru realty websites. At just about the very last minute, I added one more to the list ... it was priced a bit higher than our *limit*, but it looked like a nice home and one I thought they should see.
To make a long story short, that house turned out to be *the* house. It is not only in the district we were after, but in the exact schools in that district. The house is just 5 minutes from the middle school and 15 minutes from the high school, so we should see a huge decrease in our gasoline bill right away! After seeing the house, DD called me and she was so very excited. (Knowing that there were some pretty tearful goodbyes to her friends at school, this absolutely warmed my heart!) The house is "awesome", the neighbors she and DH talked to are "so nice and friendy", there were kids (!) out and about (DD learned that there were 7 kids in one home alone and with that many kids, at least one of them should be the right age for one of mine), the town is *so cute* ...
The home is on 2.5 acres so DH will be able to keep his beloved horses at home (no more boarding fees!) and there are other 'horse' people in the neighborhood. DH and DD left an offer on the table before they left Colorado and we learned yesterday morning that it was accepted.
I am excited and looking forward to a new adventure ... and at the same time, a bit anxious and praying (mighty hard!) for a smooth transition into schools for DD (who will be a junior) and DS (who will be in 8th grade).
So if you all wouldn't mind sending some positive thoughts and good vibes (prayers would be great too) our way, I would so appreciate it!

Julie,
I am so happy that everything is falling into place for you. The new house/town sounds great! I am sure that you will be very happy there. Best of luck to you.

That is SO wonderful - to have hit it after school this year (vs. during) and to find THE house in THE area. Awesome. Smooth move vibes heading your way!

Fantastic news for Jason! My work friend right across the hall here has a son that's starting at Northwestern in the fall too! (we're also in the same scout troop; Nathan is an Eagle)

congrats :) That is exciting! I know it's scary moving a teen, but you know, my DS's both just changed schools in the last year and 1/2 and though it was a bit tough in the beginning, they say that they would move again if DH had to for work. I think they know that there are always exciting adventures to be had :) Good luck and congrats again!

Well, Julie, California will miss you even if you won't miss California.
sprinkling Magic Dust to help you and family have a smooth transition!
That's great news! House, schools, neighborhood, neighbors, and horses.... goodness, it sounds absolutely perfect! I am so happy for y'all. :)
Oh, and you do know the rule when someone on the boards moves?? The internet access is the LAST thing to be disconnected when you leave and the FIRST thing connected when you get there! LOL
Congratulations!
And congratulations to Jason too!!
I hate that he's struggling some with his ED, but maybe this Northwestern thing is just the thing he needs to boost him up over this hump.
PPT going out to Jason for his ED and a hearty congrats for his acceptance to NW!
Pam,
Congrats to J, that is exciting about Northwestern :) Our oldest wants to go look at Northwestern. They have a great theater dept and that's what he wants. We are going to Juillard and NYU this summer and maybe Northwestern sometime next year. I hope all goes well with J's ED, I know sadly it can take years to finally put it to rest. My best GF from growing up lives a happy healty life, but it is always with her :)
