ROFL... He doesn't beat around the bush does he?
An interesting assortment of costs being posted here. My DD's High school of 4300 has a food court that rivals what you would see in the mall. I need to deposit $250 every 3 months in her lunch account. It works out to about $3 -$5 per day. DD still needs to bring healthy snacks in her backpack to get through the day. It doesn't appear to me that your cost is out of line.
My kids both buy lunch daily, the lunches are $1.60 and I also give them $1.00/day, because neither of them drinks milk, so they get a drink from the vending machine. Usually iced tea or lemonade.
Daddioe, I went to public school 40 yrs ago, I was 11 at that time so I was still in the elementary school, which was K-8th. I paid $.35 for a lunch. With that we got a good amount of food, but didn't have any choice. The menu came out each week and told what the hot lunch was each day.
Hi, Does your school district offer any free or reduced price lunches?? Ours do throughout the state, I think it's through USDA. Anyway, if the cost is hitting your budget, maybe that's a way to go.
My DS, a junior, ALWAYS brings his lunch. I would LOVE for him to buy a lunch some days. We tried having him make the lunch but it was stressful on all of us. He's a kid who does his own laundry and can make his own dinner so we just compromised and I make his lunch every day. And I will miss it when he goes off to college!
Not sure why he and his friends prefer bringing lunch - my DD always bought.
We are fortunate that we can afford to have him buy or bring and I'm not sure it would make that much difference financially in any case. My DS is an athlete, so I typically pack a sandwich, bagel, string cheese, fruit, and protein bar, which must add up to at least $2. and then he comes home and eats two bowls of cereal and fruit . . .

My kids surely fall outside the norm here, because they have always brought a lunch from home to school.
