Oh yes, dd is a walking example of all the injuries that can occur with cheerleading - she had a high ankle sprain, found out after it healed that she actually had a break in the ankle, she has permanently stretched every ligament in her ankle, her knee is messed up (don't remember what though), she has/had nerve damage from fractures in her spine - basically her entire right side is a mess. Oh and when she does her tumbling her right wrists bothers her :-/

When she was seeing the sports doctor and the physical therapist they both agreed that cheerleading is the most "dangerous" sport in high school. With all other sports there is conditioning and physical training. With cheerleading you take a bunch of girls and just start throwing other girls around. DD thinks she originally messed up her back in 8th grade when she was a base - she has an over-arch in her back as it is, and when she was basing it was just too much for her back. The falls last year as a flyer just totally exasperated everything.

DD's attitude towards her weight also has me thinking that she is "self-destructing" her chances for varsity. She's 5'2" she was right at 100 lbs until she went on the pill which put 10 lbs on her (mostly boobs). She's always been a healthy eater and drank lots of water. Since she found out she had a spot (and put the pressure on herself) - she has become a junk food addict and loves her sodas. She's put on another 5 lbs atleast. She's not working out like she used to. I don't buy the junk food - she has her own money and when we stop at the store she will go in and buy a bag of chocolates and I swear eat them in one sitting :-/

The more I think about it, I see a talk with her in the future to find out what's up. None of this is like her at all.

Congrats Rose!
Quite an accomplishment for your DD.
As others have posted, I too have fond memories of the cheerleading squad from days gone by......from the bleachers of course... :-)

Goodluck to her for a successful and safe year!
