Missing Girl at DDs high school

A 15 yo girl from dd's school has been missing since 7:30 wednesday morning. She showed up in school but just disappeared. She is an epileptic and does not have her meds with her. They supposedly aren't ruling it as suspicious. There has been a massive search going on since last night. There is a river nearby and at last check that is where they are focusing their search. Link: http://www.wmtw.com/news/10288344/detail.html There is a video on the page.... the page now says the search is scaled back. I'm not sure what that means.... Rumors flying on dd's myspace bulletins, say the girl was last seen on a bridge near some river rapids soaking in the rain...Dd is pretty freaked about this...

Prayers needed for this girl and her family and the community!!

Do they have videocameras in the school? I can't imagine how scary that is for everyone involved. The family and community will be in my thoughts and prayers.

You know I have no idea if they have cameras in the school. I keep meaning to ask dd after all the recent school violence issues. A little update, according to one news page they say they have now cancelled the search with no reason given. I hope that's good news??? but I don't see how....it's very scary though.

Here's an update:

Friday night, May 11th, a body washed up in the river. This is the river that was searched continuously when Coreen went missing. The body washed up 1 mile from the school and 6 miles from the bridge she was last seen on. Only reports so far have said that the body was a female - Coreen in the only person missing in our area.

Official word is due at 1pm ET today. Just last week, Coreen's father held a candlelight vigil at the middle school (exactly a week from today).

It was her :(

No sound of foul play and it appears to be suicide. This school has lost 2 teachers this year to cancer and this is the 2nd student suicide. About a month after Coreen disappeared, a junior named Matt hung himself.

There are Grief Counselor's at the school and the press will be swarming the school again today (dd said the press was awful yesterday)

How awful.

My prayers go out to this girl's family and friends and to all those who are affected by this. I know it is hard on the family, but it is so hard on her classmates as well.

kel7col4,

Thank you for the update, and I, too, send my condolences to the girl's family and her classmates. What a heart breaker!

My dd has told me recently of kids at her school telling HER that they are going to kill themselves, but that they were just joking. I told my daughter to treat any statement that hinted of suicide as a serious statement that needed to be immediately addressed. She now knows to tell someone, "That isn't funny. If you are joking, take it back right now, otherwise I am going to tell my mom." I think her classmates now know that she is serious and that the subject of suicide is also serious.

Oh how sad. My H just remarked last night how at the end of every school year there is some tragedy. This most certainly is a tragedy. Keeping your community in my thoughts and prayers.

A few weeks after Coreen went missing dd went through something similar with a "friend". I posted on here about it. It was a guy friend that right before we moved here, 2 years ago, lost his dad to suicide. Periodically, he would run to dd with thoughts of suicide (always on aim) - it normally went like this: He would be in a relationship, the relationship would end, he would immediately turn to dd, dd would gently turn him down, then the suicide talk would begin.

Right after Coreen disappeared, he did this but he was quite specific, even giving her messages to give people. DD went nuts, terrified that if she didn't do anything he would "end up like Coreen". She and I went to the guidance counselor the next day and he was pulled out of school for a mental eval. I don't know the end result (originally he and dd had to go to guidance weekly to make sure everything was okay). That night that he was released from the hospital he im'd dd flipping out on her, but the next day he came up to her in school, said Thank You and gave her a huge hug. I hope he is getting help for it, because he had a pattern of doing this...

Dd didn't know Coreen. She did know the junior that died about a month later. I guess he used to walk her to her 3rd block class everyday and she said he was the nicest guy.

My nephew is in the 3rd grade and Coreen's little brother is in his class.... I ran into her mother about a week ago at the school, but didn't realize it until I saw the sign-in log. I wish I would have recognized her :(
