I saw the blotch of snow on the weather map, passing thru TX. Glad I'm in VA right now.

We did have a cold blast a couple of weeks ago when I made the first batch of chili. When I'm lazy, I just make V8 soup in the mwave--low Na V8 with broccoli and cottage cheese (I know, that's loaded with sodium), and lots of pepper. That's yummy, too.

Pam's gumkies sound good. Never tried making cabbage rolls. My mom used to make svetek (Bohemian) a lot, and I love that. Pressure cook cabbage, spread in a buttered baking pan and cover with a flour/egg/milk mixture and bake. Maybe tomorrow....

Chicken and dumplings is something I make only during cold winter days.

OK Jeanine, I'm puzzled - what is the connection between game and gout? Isn't it like any other meat?

Hhhmmmm ... still haven't been brave enough to try deer, but there is a restaurant here that serves buffalo and DH swears it is delicious!

Our favorite cold-weather food is beef stroganoff,

Not sure if buffalo and bison are different, but bison burgers taste like burgers made from sirloin; can be dry if you're not careful but otherwise the exact same taste/texture for less fat.

I pretty much substitute venison in any of my beef recipes - though some of them I add some lard, coz otherwise it's kinda dry.
