I didn't want to keep that other thread 'alive and kicking' so decided to respond to your post here:

Translation: I'm not making as much money as I thought I would, and I'm resentful.
In my own experience, those who find most cause to critize our capitalistic society are just jealous, or worse, lazy. My mom has a number of friends who would love a socialist government that would take care of them because they just don't like to work, and never did. I guess they figure that those who like it should do it and take care of those who don't. I say we already do that: we call it taxes. The redistribution of wealth is one of the most unfair things that happens in our society, but I accept it because it's still hands down the best country in the world. If I didn't so, I would move. No amount of money could keep me living in a country that I hate.
Julie, I had no idea you lived in the Middle East for 5 years! I would love to pick your brain about that sometime.>>

Yes, we did live in the Middle East! Five years in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia to be exact, and we were newlyweds when we arrived -- it was our two-month wedding anniversary. Both DD and DS were born there, and DS was just 8 months old when we returned stateside. DD had just turned 3 and still has a few watery memories of our home there.
If you want to pick my brain, feel free! You might want to do it quick though, because middle age has arrived and my own memories of the place are getting a little faded, too. It was a great experience for us and I'm glad we had the opportunity when we did, because it's just not an option now and it might not be for any Americans outside the military ever again.
As far as that Iranian girl goes, I have to say I was pretty offended by her attitudes and remarks. She got a first-rate education (Santa Clara, if I remember correctly) in our fine country at one of our finest schools and employment at what I'm sure was a decent salary (I'm sure it was higher than mine) with long-term potential as well. The bank was Pacific Valley Bank -- I don't know if PVB is still an independent bank or if it has merged with another, but at the time it was a very succesful and up and coming independent financial institution. I remember feeling rather resentful because the management team of the branch I worked at (Saratoga) seemed overly respectful of her to the point of fawning over her.
But I think you're right. I think she was lazy.
