Hey ...

Do you remember my post from a couple weeks about a possible move to the Denver area? Well ... DD, DS and I are going up for a look-see next week. Still not sold completely on the idea, but not completely ruling it out either. Actually, feeling rather queasy just thinking about it.

Anyway, you mentioned an ex-colleague of your DH's that move to the Denver area and is very enthusiastic about it. Do you happen to know what community he lives in? Did he have children he moved? If so, how old and what grades and how did the transition go?

DS is actually more keen on the idea now (DH has bribed him in a BIG way -- it's gonna cost $$$$) and DD is a bit more hesitant now because she loves her school and loves her school friends. She'd like to stay in private school even if we do move.

Just looking for more opinions and I hope you don't mind :-).

Thanks,
Julie

It's great that you're checking it out...can't hurt, right? Our friend that moved to the area works for Ball Aerospace, off the top of my head I can't remember the community but will look into that for you. And his kids were toddlers when they moved, so it "doesn't count". LOL. Really, he keeps telling my dh we should move but when you're kids are that young you just don't get it.

One thing they keep on telling us is that the weather is so changeable. Literally snow and sun in the same day. I would love to visit them sometime. Let me know how your trip goes. I think that maybe when our kids are in college we'll move to the area. Who knows?

LOL ... you're right. Moving when your kids are toddlers' just doesn't count and just isn't the same as when they're in middle/high school. Sigh ... I just don't know about this.

Thank you!

Turns out they live near Boulder, Colorado in a community called Erie, Colorado. They seem to love it there, and rave about how much of a house they could afford compared to here, like most everyone does.

There alot of factors to consider as all have said here. I would be feeling the same kind of "queasy feeling" that you probably feel - change is not always smooth, but can turn out for the best in the long run. I would weigh all factors in considering the move, not just how the kids will do, not just how much cheaper real estate is, not just the weather. I'll be thinking of you.

Thanks again for your help. Turns out, it's quite a small world. BIL and SIL who moved to Colorado two months ago bought a home in Erie -- a big huge old thing (about 4,000 sf for a family of 3) with a full basement and paid less than $500k for it.

Interestingly, yesterday when DS and I were out shoe shopping and I got frustrated with the traffic he looked at me and said "well, it looks like it might be time to move away from California after all". ??? Then this morning when I was driving DD to her volunteer job at Balboa Park SHE said "I'm excited about going to Colorado next week!" Another puzzlement. There are so many uncertainties with a move like this! Ack.

DH said to me this morning before he left for work that I should just think about this trip next week as a quick and fun getaway with the kids, and that if we hated it and came home and said, "No way are we moving to that h**l hole", it would be OKAY. The Shell bill was $400 less than last month, so he must be feeling better about things.

Well, thanks again for your help and advice. I will keep you updated!

Have a great day,
Julie
