I have a 12 yo DS who is still in that really sweet kid stage--he is constantly hugging me, saying "I love you", etc.

DS (16.5) and I watch TV shows - I used to force myself to watch things I can't stand like Wrestling and Family Guy for the sake of getting closer, but now we can usually find something we both enjoy. I take him to a movie once a month or so. We go out to the donut shop for coffee a few times a week, and try to do a breakfast a couple Sunday's a month. or go shopping at the mall, if you don't mind hanging around video game stores, LOL! I personally DON'T find that drives in the car are always great, because first I have to make him unplug his mp3 player - but if he is in a mood to talk, that is definitely a first choice! He also likes cooking, so we sometimes make dinner together.

What I found, when I was doing something with my DSs that I didn't particularly enjoy, was that if I "endured" sharing their joys with them, they were more likely to go along with things that I enjoyed, just for the sake of making mom happy.

Believe me, I have nothing against only children, but I think if you grow up that way, it's what you are used to.
