This might sound nuts but i'm sure that i'm not the only parent of a girl or boy for that matter to have to deal with this. And since i just read a post about girls shaving pubic hair i guess i can post about this.

Actually, it is my understanding that ALL soap is antibacterial.

YOu are definitely not the only person who has dealt with hygiene issues!

When my DD was in 5th grade and washing her own long hair, her hair just never looked clean. Her idea of caring for it was to stick it in a pony tail. After numerous conversations, I learned she'd been washing it for months without taking the pony tail holder out! There was a gross buildup of shampoo. After getting that part taken care of, we worked on brushing but I was picking my battles and not making a big deal of it. Then she came home one day and said her teacher said she needed to brush her hair! Voila! Never a problem again.

On the teeth, what helped us with DD and DS was a conversation with the dental hygeniest. My kids were brushing, just very sloppily. With DS the trick was to get him an electric toothbrush. With DD, the trick was a talk about cavities - a little bit of a scare tactic - but it worked! I also showed her my mouth full of fillings from poor dental care when I was a kid.

Good luck. I can assure you it will get better at some point!

I can sympathize with you on this one. We used to have to beg and plead with our DD to shower, wash hair, brush teeth, even just brush her hair. Then one day we couldn't get her out of the shower. She will not leave the house now unless the is washed, brushed, & polished in every area. She is 13 now.

If you spent some time in her classroom, you'd soon find out, she's not the only one by any means with hygiene issues.

I think this is pretty age appropriate for some reason.

Sorry you are having an issue with this. I am a school nurse and actually teach growth and development to the 5th graders and a lot of it is hygiene. A lot of kids don't know what to do, how often to wash, what to wash. Someone said something about using a wash cloth. That's a good idea if daily showers are not possible. Make sure the clothes they are putting on are clean-does no good to wash underneath if what goes on top is stinky. I know having allergies can also be difficult. Find a soap that works and doesn't cause her to break out and buy it in bulk!
I had a hygiene issue with my son. He was using his deodorant, so he said, but he still smelled like a little onion. I felt like I had talked to him until I was blue in the face. I asked DH to talk to him to see if coming from the other parent would make a difference. It did. He was not using it correctly-seems he would swipe once in that general area. Since the talk, he is an onion no more!
I know I don't like to be nagged. I am also a list person and like the list! I might do that for my own!
Good luck.

Ok well I HAVE TOO give my 2 cents....First of all I don't know where the other poster from outside the U.S. is from but if it's in a northern or colder climate you probably ( although I can't believe I am saying it) don't want to or don't have to shower every day.........eww this goes back to our mom's days when they got their hair washed and rolled once a week.........who knows what was growing in there.............which

1. I read that it doesn't matter if it's antibacterial soap. Keep your dove unscented. Equally, soap is not to kill germs, it's to rinse them off(the nurse in charge or the Juvenile Justice Facility where I work explained this to us when she was telling us about preventing MRSA...she said that regular bar soap is just fine and much better than just using alcohol based sanitaizer).

2. I actually dealt with smelly kid syndrome(my sd). It was so bad that the nurse actually called her down to say something to her because her teachers and friends were complaining...this was what it took for my
