Grrrr.....I'm so frusterated with my daughter! She is in 9th grade this year. Up until now she has been an A, high B student in honors classes.

It is typical for us parents of teens to escalate punishment when we are not getting through but eventually we make it so there is nothing left in their eyes and yep, why bother? Nothing left to lose
I would shake it up a little bit-start fresh. Maybe throw in more of a reward system. If you get your algebra grade up x # of points we will go to dinner and you can pick the restaurant.
Be sure she doesnt need help. Talk to her teachers. There is often help available they dont tell us about and sometimes just insisting they will stay for after school tutoring is enough to spur some action after a session or two
I am confused as to why she has such a light load and is that in any way impacting her? Sometimes, as counterintuitive as it seems, they do better keeping busy and staying 'in the zone' than having too much time to get distracted.
I would start fresh with the New Year myself. What you are doing isnt working and I have BTDT and guess what? Didnt work here either-they just dig those heels in!!!
My dd is somewhat the same. In elementary school she was great, all grades in the mid to high 90s, middle school she proceeded to drop a bit each year. In hs she had done fair most of the time, but no where near where she should be. I don't know what to tell you. It seems there is no way that you can make them learn. You can make them sit at a table with a book, but you can't make them read or learn from it.
Kelsie is a senior this year and now wishes that she had worked harder and done better. She is doing pretty well this year. I think they just have to learn on their own, and maybe she has to fall on her face before she will decide to bring herself up to par.
I am interested to know where she is going to school that she is only taking foreign language, math, PE and keyboarding. What about the core subjects English, Social Studies, Science???
I'm so sorry you're dealing with this - btdt, glad it's behind me.
So what does your DD have left to loose?

I don't have much to add to any of the advice as we allllll no my dd by this point lol...
We have the same; 4 classes every day, white and blue days, for a semester; year-long classes continue the next semester, but semester-long ones switch Jan 3.
ITA in that it might be smart to set little goals, and have rewards as those get achieved. Progress toward a given realistic goal; don't say you have to have a B by the end of the quarter/term as that might not even be achievable with perfect scores the rest of the term. But do reward the small successes.

Ya know, it's funny how easy it is to focus on the negative and forget about the positive reward system. Well, it's not really funny, but it's something that I did when she was little and then, well, i guess I don't have an excuese as to why it stopped.
I thought I posted to you last night, but I was so tired I must not have hit the "post" button LOL
We totally believe in the reward system.
