Need Ideas for Teen Boy Birthday Party

Hi ladies! I’m a member of another board, but I had a question I was hoping you could help me with. My son’s birthday is coming up and were taking a couple of his friends to a go cart park, but later he wants about 7 or 8 friends over at the house to hang out and do the cake and presents thing. In the past when we’ve had his birthday parties at the house it was easy, we’ve had a clown, kid games, etc. But now, these are 14 year old boys, I don’t have a clue how to keep them busy. Some may want to play video games, but that would leave others just sitting around getting bored.

So I’m begging for some ideas for what to do with these boys.

Thanks in advance!

Actually, most of the time, left alone, they will make their own fun.

Have plenty of 14 year old kid food...DVD's available to watch...they'll play video games but likely take turns...keep checking on them...you can have board games, but I don't know how many 14 year old boys play them on their own...cards...most of the time, though, they just want to "chill" and "hang."

Just keep them supervised and keep the food coming!

I agree with mamarose on this one - by this age they have typically outgrown the structured, themed type parties.

In ds14's case, they DON'T talk about girls, not even his 15 year old friends...and I will take it as long as I can! They talk Halo 2, Oblivion, Crackdown...XBox Live games, cheats, techniques, etc. They talk music, YouTube, etc. They talk movies. They love gory movies or 'stupid-funny' movies. They gripe about school. Food is good. Videos or gaming is good. A chance to get outside a bit (for mom and dad's sake!) is good.

Since your kids love movies, something that might be fun for them is to ensure at least one digital video camera is available for them to use along with a pc so they can edit the vid and make a "film". My son and his friends can waste HOURS making their movies ("Kevin the Barbarian" was quite the masterpiece and they are planning a sequel.) And with mine, most of this takes place outside because they need room for the "stunts."

Our plan for my son's 16th birthday party next weekend ;-) This is a lot like last year's party - a few of them are going to a movie (last year it was swimming). Then coming back here for pizza and cake. Then two are staying over night- and they probably will be up all night playing video games. I don't know why, but that doesn't seem to bore boys of this age...some play, some watch, and everyone seems to enjoy themselves. OR they put in a video to watch. They really are pretty independent and don't need to be 'entertained' the same. My 8 year old's birthday parties drive me CRAZY - but the two teens are no problem for me.
