I'd like to get a laptop for my DD - her old one died mid school-year last year, and I can already see that she and I are going to have a hard time sharing a computer this year. (last night she was using our desktop until 11pm; I went to bed early and got up at 5am for work I had to do - ugh).

Do you or your teens have a lap top that you like? On the one hand, it doens't need to be fancy - mostly Word Processing, Powerpoint, and IE - but OTOH, this might be one that either she takes to college in two years (is that unrealistic?) or hands down to her brother when she graduates HS.

What are your experiences - things you love, things you've hated - and what should we be looking for?

Sue,

Hubby is actually in the electronics business; works in the large-scale storage systems array side of things.

My son just bought himself a Dell Inspiron 1521 over the summer for himself and he loves it...and my dh likes it better than his work computer.

This is funny, I'm sitting here waiting for UPS to bring me my new Dell laptop today! I'm so excited! I had an older Apple but just couldn't get used to it, and couldn't get the wireless internet to work right. And I had ordered and cancelled a

What's on the laptop has nothing to do with the quality. So, having Powerpoint & whatever
is up to you. You can always buy that SW separately & install in on the laptop.

What I would suggest is that you get her a "corporate" quality IBM/Tobisha...Those tend to be more robust. That is what you want in a laptop. Don't get a tablet type;not worth it.
