After a long absence, I am back to the board.  Don't have any questions for the group though, just reading and sharing.

I'm married, 2 girls 17 and 14.  One in 12th and one in 9th.

The elder got her license this year and a job 20 hours/wk over the summer and keeping it during school.

Happy to say she is an excellent student, plays marching band, loves chemistry [not ever in my lifetime].

The younger loves dance and reading/writing.

The year will be very busy as we are looking at colleges.

My girls are also 3 years apart, and were freshman and senior at the same time. It took YEARS for my bank account to recover from having TWO girls going to every dance at their school, and several at friends' schools also. You have my condolences, LOL.

Hi and welcome back to the board! My boys were also 3 grades apart and overlapped in high school one year. They were both in marching band - oldest ds was a real 'bando'. Youngest ds dropped band after 2 years. Hope you stick around - the board has been pretty quiet recently!

Thank you so much for the welcome back.
My HS senior is flute section leader in marching band.
My HS freshman opted for dance instead(ballet and such). She plays clarinet very well but had to choose one (her thoughts and mine). She's missing friends and now school has started its to late to change her mind. I told her maybe next year.
Any thoughts?

The senior works too. Freshman works some dance parties.

Busy weekend as usual, but. We will get out all together tomorrow morning--apple orchard.

How funny. My older dd played clarinet and alto sax, and was section leader. My younger dd played flute, and danced. I would agree that it's too late to get into the band this year. However, it's not impossible to do both--my dd did, but admittedly, she gave the flute practice short shrift. She enjoyed band most when she did it with her sister, but she did have a lot of bando friends--many of whom she'd met thru her sister, even before she entered HS, so she stuck till the last semester of Sr year.
I always told my kids to take on the MOST they could, and then cut back if they found they couldn't handle it all. I think it's better to try--you never know what you are capable of till you push yourself. Plus, It's easier to drop a class or activity if you get overwhelmed, than to be lonely, or bored with not enough challenge.

Hi!  I am new to this board also.  I have a DD who is 16 and will turn 17 at the end of October.  She is a Junior in high school  DS is 15 and a Sophomore in high school.

DD is a cheerleader and involved in every service organization she can find.  She is also active in our church, both locally and at the synodical level (we're Lutheran).

DS plays football, basketball and baseball, he is in band, is a Life Scout and Assistant Senior Patrol Leader in our local Boy Scout troop, and he is also active at church in the same organizations as DD.

Both kids also work, but DS's job is at a resort and should be wrapping up for the season in a couple of weeks.
