O.M.G. How do you do it?
C got her learner's permit a couple weeks ago and had her first behind-the-wheel instruction yesterday so now, she can "officially" drive.
She had two hours with a professional driving instructor and got home just in time to go pick up DS from school, so I let her drive us. Yikes! Bad idea on my part ... heavily trafficked two-lane road, students walking home on the narrow shoulder on either side, cars jockying to get in and out of the drop off lane, school buses stopping for drop-offs ... not the greatest scenario for a new driver and I thought I was going to push my foot right through the floor! I actually made her pull into a parking place and let me drive home! She was soooo not happy with me. Couldn't help it, though.
I know she needs to drive to be able to learn to drive, but .... ???

ROFL!!! I too can relate! My first kid scared the pee-waddle outta me EVERY TIME he got behind the wheel. And this was after he had spent the required driving hours with the instructor. I wore out the floorboard on the passenger side hitting that "brake". I *still* get heart palpatations every time I think about it (and that was 6 years ago)! I'm not sure but you might be able to see my fingerprints imbedded in the dash.
I just got thru with my second one. He's a full-fledged driver now. But, he was soooooo easy compared to his brother. Well, after the 1st little bit anyway. Those first few times, he would just zone out. He'd miss turn-offs and exits, speed limit changes (however, amazingly it was always the ones that lowered the limit--he seemed to always see the ones that raised it). I really worried about that. But, he got better.
Yep, start with the back roads, move up to light-traffic areas, and save the tricky areas (high-traffic, weird intersections, etc.) until she is much more comfortable behind the wheel. Or should I say, until *you* are more comfortable with them behind the wheel--they always seem to think they are doing *great*! LOL
Good luck to you and your dd, they really do get better with practice. It's just getting them to that point is plenty nerve-wracking!
