What classes/teachers are your kid's enjoying?
N is having a ball in school this year, and devoting herself to her classes in a way I have never seen from her.
So far, this school year is a 180 degree turnabout from freshman year. C doesn't like much about school at all this year ... didn't get the teachers she wanted and doesn't like any of her classes except for her AP class in European History and Studies. This class, interestingly, is the one with the biggest time and work commitment. She hasn't made much of an effort to get involved with much in the way of activities, either, so she seems to be in something of a rut.
HOWEVER, she is currently on a 5-day school sponsored trip to a Shakespeare Festival in a neighboring state. So far, the group has seen 'Cyrano de Bergerac', 'The Importance of Being Ernest' is tonight, and 'The Merry Wives of Windsor' tomorrow. Judging from her phone check-in today, she is having a really great time.
I hope this helps to improve her outlook and attitude toward school! There's a lot of the school year left to go yet and with younger DS having a permanent hate-on for school, it will be rather tedious for me if they're BOTH complaining.
DS14, freshman, likes all (biology, world studies,German2,PE,literature and composition, broadcast journalism) but geometry - doesn't like that teacher in the least; says she doesn't teach at all. So I spend time having to refresh myself on geometry (gosh, it's been a while!) to teach him as apparently she's just not getting through.

Hi Lurker here but my ds started high school this yr at the regional vocational school 6 surrounding towns attend and the admissions process is real tough due to only so many openings ea yr so most of the kids he's been in school w/his whole life are in high school here in town. That made him nervous at first but at lunch he hooked up with a bunch of kids he knows and he settled in well. He has academics every other week and an exploratory shop the other week, He has loved each of the shops so far and is keeping up with the academic classes as well. dh attended this school and ds gets excited to tell his dad the different things he does in the shops etc.
High School is such a new adventure for us as he's our oldest so Im sure I'll be around here more often. T

For the most part, Leah is happy. She has one teacher (French) that she really dislikes - says she's not a good teacher, not smart (couldn't find Egypt on a world map), and doesn't speak French well enough for 10th grade. Friday is "Open School" day, and I"ll be able to sit in on this class. If it's really that awful, I may speak to the department head - not only for Leah's learning, but also for my sanity (I have to listen to the complaining all year).
Otherwise, she's happy - loves Math, Global Studies, Art; enjoying English and Chemistry; and having a blast in Senior Jazz Band. I'n looking forward to Open School so I can see some of these teachers in action!
Yes there is electronics, electrical, carpentry, cabinet making, automotive, autobody, machine shop, plumbing, HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning), culinary arts, cosmetology, masonry, and I think a couple more I cant think of. DS would like to ultimately end up in HVAC, because that is what dh does and ds would end up working for him. We currently have a co-op student working for us from the school and hope if ds truly wants to be in that shop he'll get in, but we've always told him he can do whatever he wants. So far he's had carpentry and plumbing and loved working with his hands, this week he has HVAC. The kids have to do good and get a recommendation from each of the 9 exploratoy shops in order to be considered for their first pick. Its not the voke school of old thats for sure.
Its an exciting time. Hes a great kid in school never a discipline problem his teachers have always loved him. At home is a different story tho LOL.
Thanks for the welcome. T

Well, mid term grades came home for my kiddo and he has only one C with the rest As and Bs. I was quite shocked as this is my LD kiddo and I have been dreading high school like crazy!
His only 'special ed' class is English so he is mainstreamed for everything else and apprently handling it far better than I expected. I hope it continues
Hope Jason is doing well. Glad Justin likes his classes.
DD (junior) likes all of her classes this year, especially French and Chemistry.
She doesn't like American History. She describes her teacher as that Stiller character.
You know..the mono-tone guy that does the "dry eyes" commercial.. :-)
