I am sorry your daughter is having problems. My daughter is a former all-star cheerleader on a stunting squad and is currently a varsity cheerleader and on her high school's competition squad, which does not stunt. I also work at a gymnastic center and am familiar with gymnastics/cheer coaches. It might be best if you get the doctor's release in writing saying exactly what activity your daughter has been cleared for. It may be that the coach is unclear on the severity of her back injury. Unfortunately, some coaches respect a note from a doctor more than they respect a parent's e-mail. I am sure you and your daughter both deserve the courtesy of a response from the coach and the coach should have answered your e-mail in a timely manner( for example, before they left for camp) If you give the coach the medical release and also send a copy to the athletic director and still get no response, I would schedule a meeting with the athletic director and ask why the coach is ignoring your efforts to protect your daughter's health. I hope the situation improves for you and your daughter soon.

DD called me to say good night and although a rushed conversation, I got a little bit of info to ease my mind. DD is back to flying (although I hate her flying too lol, but that's just mom fears) and she is not basing in any shape or form. Coach pulled dd aside at one point and said "Your mom doesn't want you basing?" to which DD replied "I can't because it hurts my back". So apparently I got my point across. There was no request for a doctor's note, but I will be getting one for the future. Basing was never an issue before so I never even thought of needing a note lol.... I now know better!

I am quite ticked that she didn't bother to reply to my email that she obviously did read. I am carefully surveying my next move (ie Jason's suggestion).

Thank you!

I am glad to hear your daughter is not basing and the coach is actually reading your e-mails, although a response directly to you would be the more adult thing for her to do. Cheerleading is the strangest "sport" and I never understand the coaches decisions. It seems so much more arbitrary than any other sport my kids do. Good luck to your daughter and her team!
