Ok, this is minor, BUT....

You know....I really suffer from anxiety about not falling into the 'perfect' mom category....I leave dishes in the sink, and toothpaste residue in the bathroom sink....sometimes for a few days.......there's fur balls from my pets wafting over my hardwoods (that desperately need to be refinished)....Hmmmm...everyone says you can't smell your 'own' smells.....does my house smell like Cat? There are some nights that I tell my family---fend for yourself for dinner--leftovers or Sandwiches!!

Ok you get the picture---....

I am an awesome cook, but mama doesn't bake. I baked fabulous cookies for my best friend's birthday and it took me nearly 4 HRS..........but again, they were FABULOUS.

We got a message from our perky football booster representative telling all of the parents to bring TWO DOZEN cookies for the boys after football camp on friday. Ok, no biggie.......then she said they needed to be HOMEMADE....she didn't suggest it, she didn't say if you have time, she didn't say if you like to bake.....she just said bring 2 dozen cookies.....HOMEMADE!!

H E double toothpicks no! Wal mart here I come. MAYBE I'll do break and bakes.......I work full time, and have 2 teen boys---I don't have time to worry about baking cookies..............brownies, maybe..........hey---can a brownie serve as a cookie? But they'd still be from a box............(insert underhanded snicker)....

End Rant,
Shels

This is one of my pet peeves! Every time our kids hiccup, it seems, we are required to provide some sort of homemade treats. I just realized this morning that I'm supposed to bring some kind of dessert for the last day of a music camp activity tomorrow. My DD was only volunteering there to help the younger kids. I don't see why I have to now go and bake brownies or something! And you know that they always have way too much food at these things, and most of it goes to waste. What an utter waste of time, and how nervy of that woman to specify that the food must be homemade! (And I would add that I am someone who loves to cook!)

That is ridiculous! I would definitely buy the kind from a roll or the break off kind and do that! Who's gonna know they aren't homemade??? Or just buy the Walmart ones and arrange them on a paper plate!! I would get a lot of satisfaction out of doing it that way! LOL!!!!!!

That's kind of funny that she insists they are homemade because I remember when my kids were in preschool (maybe public schools still have this rule, we are in a parochial school now) there was a rule where you were NOT allowed to bring homemade, it HAD to be store bought!

They sell frozen cookie dough in big tubs at most stores that will make at the very least 4 DZ cookies. Go buy some. It's sooooo easy and you can still say they are homemade...you did use your oven and cookie sheets after all.

I think it's pretty obnoxious for anyone to demand anything when looking for a handout. I happen to be a baker - love it and do it as often as possible. But if anyone ever told me I HAD to bring homemade, I might just go buy some of those cheapie cookies made at Stop & Shop and come in a clear plastic case and serve them up on a tin plate. Hmph.

OMG I could rant and rant about this stuff! With 6 kids ranging from pre to going into sr year we are always always always told what "donation" we are expected to give. First of all, it's not a "donation" if it is REQUIRED, don't they understand that! All of my kids go to catholic schools, we are a "good catholic family" (snicker-6 kids) and I just love when they send notes home about what they expect our kids to bring in, or how much money they NEED to donate. We are by no means paupers, but with 6 kids quite honestly we don't have time or money to meet the constant expectations of 2 diff high schools and a grade school. Now, when we get the notice of what donation is required to help this needy person or that I just send in a respectful letter stating that I pay my tuition, put in the (required) donation on Sunday and have 6 kids. I shouldn't be penalized for having a large family, and in fact they should be sending me some of these donations that they get.
The best is the "helpful" parent (usually of 1 kid, 2 at most--sorry no offense meant) that collects for gifts for teaches/coaches/etc. With 6 kids in school, most having more than one teacher I should just buy gifts from a wholesale distributor. Come on people, wake up!! I coach (in the past 12 months, head coached 3 teams, assisted with 5 or 6 teams) and always tell people I do it because I enjoy it, DON'T get me ANYTHING! I do appreciate it if they do it anyway, but honestly I'd rather they didn't. The amount of time I put into coaching much more valuable than a gift card of any amount anyway. Anyone volunteering time is doing it for the satisfaction they get from the activity, not a gift at the end of the event.
Wow-sorry to go off topic somewhat, but honestly this really does aggrevate me!
As far as the original post, I would also get some cheap stuff and tell them to be glad you had the time to even go to the store. I wouldn't be suprised if the person who thought of homemade items is a grandmother or parent of one kid who has more time than they know what to do with.

Yaaay ... I'm in! Since we moved, we switched from cable modem iNet to satellite and I've had such a hard time with it. I've had e-mails sit in my outbox for hours and lost more than one post to satellite communications purgatory ..

Anyway! I remember when one of the kids were in grade school, all that particular grade level teachers were planning a huge Thanksgiving Day 'feast'. Why, I'll never know, but I was 'assigned' to bring in a roasted and sliced turkey! Well, at least the meat part, they probably didn't want the carcass. Egad.

I went down to the deli counter of my favorite supermarket, had them slice deli turkey a little thicker than usual and bought a couple pounds of it. There was not a scrap of it left.

If you are so inclined and have the time, I think buying those slice and bake cookies is a great idea. Of course, buying store bought and arranging them on a plate is easier yet.

Okay, I'm gonna press "post" here soon, let's hope this one 'sticks' ...

What a pain! I'd buy the ready to bake ones in the fridge section of the store if you don't want to rock the boat buying ready made ones.

Oh, shels I totally relate. (I must admit, tho', I don't have anxiety over not being the perfect mom...I am no where CLOSE to that and frankly, I don't care!)

I can't believe she specified "homemade"! aaccckkk! I understand they may not want a couple bags of Oreos or somehthing like that, but good grief--saying they must be homemade. Oh, honey, they wouldn't even request that if they had ever had MY homemade cookies! ROFL I truly don't bake. Ever. Believe me, anytime I had to supply homemade goodies, I ran to my nearest bakery to bail me out! And if they wanted a pie, hey, Mrs. Smith's (frozen) are way better than anything *I* could cook. Add a little cinnamon and sugar to the top of it before baking and there ya go...

I'm with everyone else, go buy either the frozen stuff or get the slice 'n' bake kind and be done with it. They are *still* homemade--just not from scratch. :)

Ughh.....

This sounds like a case for Hostess Ho-Ho's. You know... the stuff that glows in the dark with all sorts of mystery ingredients.
I'd send 'em to football camp... just to make a point.
Better yet... send 'em to perky football booster representative.. :-)

I'm a big 'talker'---I usually dont' like to rock the boat, or not fit in, or feel 'un perfect'......but I HATE TO BAKE, and living in the midwest, and it being 90+ degrees, I really dont' feel like firing up the oven either.......I'm really tempted to get Keebler fudge stripes or something and plop 'em down (and mentally stick my tounge out at the skinny, perky, clean house moms)......or the 'kids love 'em, adults hate em" frosted sugar cookies from the bakery section....

But Alas, I'm too chicken to REALLY follow through, so I'm thinking brownies....2 mixes 30 minutes and a little powdered sugar to look 'homey' and call it done!

You guys are my venting outlet......I hope the perfect moms' aren't reading my posts....how embarassing........ ')

It must be wonderful to be fresh as a daisy at all times, with not a hair PLASTERED TO YOUR SWEATY forehead. To have time to work full time, volunteer at the hospice, AND lovingly mother 4 children (all of whom are perfect, too). It must be really neat to be able to welcome people into your home at ANY given moment with freshly squeezed lemonade, or freshly brewed herbal tea. Oh, and the perfectly pressed, fresh "tossed together" look with strappy sandals!! There's nothing better than a large group of said individuals as the sweaty, , Un-Stylish LOOKING, overweight mom sidles up--maybe in 3 yr old tennies w/ crew socks, and elastic waisted jean shorts...----WITH A BAG OF KEEBLER COOKIES!!!! Nothing sets the tongues to wagging like the rogue mom that doesn't join every committee and club.

Ok---my snippy moment of the day. Sorry for the sarcasm, folks......It's been one of those weeks.
