An OT (and sorta dumb) WWYD?

Please forgive me for this one, but I need some suggestions!

I typically bake dozens of cookies at the holidays -- 7-8 different kinds, fudge, etc.

This is easy for me--I would skip the cookies and just go without participating in the cookie exchange. Eight dozen is a lot of cookies to be asked to bake! I've been invited to these things in the past, and even though I love to cook and bake, I've always found it to be too much. Make some kind of joke about it or something. As long as you're not taking cookies home with you, I don't see why anyone would mind. (Maybe you could give some of your neighbors a little gift of homemade cookies sometime during the winter--Valentine's Day, even.)

My advice is to either cut back on the youth group cookies and/or supplement with store bought.

Okay, here's my suggestion. How about you do the cookies for the youth group. Then you call the hostess of the cookie exchange and explain to her that you won't have time to bake the cookies, but could you come to do some socializing etc.

I agree with doing either (or both) of the suggestions you got - either *buy* cookies for the teens (they'll eat anything, lol) or go to the cookie exchange without cookies (just enjoying the company). I can't imagine if you said "I am so interested in getting to know the neighbors, but I'm up to my ears in baking..." that they would say "tough - no cookies, no socializing!"

At first, thinking literally of what *I* would do, I laughed, because I don't think I'd be able to do half the baking you're already committed to doing! I like to do some baking - but dozens and dozens? Nope. lol but it sounds like you have fun with it

I'm kinda leaning towards Pam direction on this one--supplimenting store bought cookies for the Youth group (or substituting the whole lot of them!!) and then doing the 8 dozen homemade for the cookie swap.

Oh gosh ... this is one of those 'can't see the forest for the trees' things, isn't it?

If it were me, I'd give whatever I had done and was willing to give up to the exchange, regardless if it's one type or many (make 8 variety batches?), and get store-bought for the kids (ITA with the others - teens aren't that picky and I don't know a kid that doesn't like Oreos or chocolate chippers, even from a box/bag - you could even get the holiday ones if you prefer) along with cocoa and marshmallows, and that should appease them all. But it's definitely not worth any pressure to you during this hectic time of year!

Julie, you are so lucky to be invited to a cookie exchange!
