A parent's worst nightmare

I just found out that the 15 yr old DD of a couple I knew from high school was killed in a car accident. Another DD was in the car & is in the hospital. I read the brief news report and it says that a tire blew on the minivan and the car rolled over. Speed and alcohol were not factors. They have 4 kids (well, I guess I should say had.) And of all ironies, the dad's job is a comedian! I don't know how he can go on & be funny after this.

The worst kind of accident is when there is no place to lay the blame. No good reason (or bad) for this to have happened. Everyone was probably doing what they were supposed to be doing and yet it still happened. Yet another reason to take things on a daily basis and be grateful for what you have, no matter how they might upset you or make you crazy! Be grateful they are still there!

As for his job, yes it will be difficult for him, but obviously he has others to support so he will ultimately go on with his job or he'll have to find a new career!

I hope they have a big network of support during this time!

How terribly sad! I can't imagine the grief they're feeling now.

How horrible. A friend of mine's (from high school) dd (16yo) was in an accident last week. She was driving and had a friend in the car, and the brakes went out. Thankfully they were both okay, albeit a bit shaken. Prayers for your friend's family. That truly is a parent's worst nightmare. :(

It did say in the long article in the paper today that all the kids were ejected from the car because of not wearing their seatbelts. Since I'm a personal injury lawyer who does car accident cases, I always wear my seatbelt, so I hope all of you will do it too. My 79 yr old aunt drives me crazy. She always starts up the car and starts driving down the street w/o putting her seatbelt on, then the Camry starts dinging so then she is putting it on while driving. I say to her "auntie, why don't you just put it on before you start driving?"
