My daughter will be turning 13 next week.
YIPEE!!! I have a teenager.

So far so good except for the recent drop from all A's - A's & B's.
I know this sounds ridiculous but for her, it's not.
I don't want to pressure her but I do.
That's not my problem (that's a whole other discussion).

MY DAUGHTER HAS NOT GOTTEN HER PERIODS AS YET!!!
Is this a norm, I discussed this with her doctor last year and she's given me a 6 month period to wait - that time is up and now I am back to square one.
I do NOT want them to put her on HORMONNES.

ADVICE, HELP!

Some girls do not even start till 15. That is totally normal. It is way too early to worry about pharmaceutical interventions. Do a google search on menarche for more information.

Talk to the doctor again, there are tests they can do to see where her horomone levels are, if she's physically maturing but is just a late bloomer, etc.

my dd was 13. I wouldn't worry she has a few friends who are 14 and still waiting.

When did you start your period? Our dr told us that it's a good indication of when your daughter will start. Except that I was 12 1/2, and my dd was 11 1/2!!

I am the same with with grades. My dd made straight A's all 9 weeks during the year, then the last 9 weeks she made 3 B's. Then her final year grades were all A's and one B. I got onto her about it, and her response was, "I'm in advanced classes; they're harder" and "you can't get mad about a B!!" I told her, "oh yes i can. I can when you have already PROVED to me that you are very intelligent and can make straight A's." :-)

My dd was one month away from starting high school, that is she was 14 before she got her first period. And then, she had her period for about six months, it stopped, and she didn't have it again until almost 6 months later.

In her case I think it had alot to do with her being very active. She is very slim, muscular and has low body fat due to her dancing. When her period stopped all of a sudden, after a few months I brought her to a doctor for blood tests who said everything was normal and not to expect her as a teen to be menstruating regularly esp given her level of activity.

So if your daughter is otherwise growing at a reasonable pace, developing her female form, gaining some height, and is otherwise healthy she'll get her period when her body is ready. No young girl should be on hormones and in fact if you read the literature doctors should not be even suggesting such a measure until they are 16 years of age and have yet to have a single period.

My DD will be 13 in 2 weeks and she has not started her period. She is very tall and slim and not very developed yet. I'm not worried as I think I was in 8th grade when I started mine.

Hi. I know that it must be hard when you hear about other girls your dd's age who are getting their periods. At thirteen, I really wouldn't worry about it. I have a 16 year old dd and some of her friends didn't get their periods til 14, 15 and even 16. Sometimes, I think it has to do with their eventual height. My sister's dd didn't get her's until 15/16 because she was supposed to be tall (she's is now 5'11"). If I remember correctly, getting their period is essentially the last of the development stages. They will still grow in height but all the other developmental stages have already taken place.

My dd was on the other end of the period timetable. She got her's at 10! I certainly wasn't ready for my little girl to grow up so fast. But I shouldn't have been too surprised...she was the tallest girl in her grade for a long time, was already about 5'5" tall in 5th grade. She actually has topped out at 5'7" so IMO she got all her growing in very early and then got her period right after.

Fortunately, for now, you can still enjoy the fact that your little girl is still a little girl :-) No matter what, it all comes to quickly.

Best wishes.

I usually don't visit these threads, but had to respond to your great point.
My DD was three weeks before her 10th birthday. ugh

I'm out of my element here, but it doesn't seem that 13-14 is much cause for alarm.

Another thing to look at is when did her father's sisters start?

Don't worry. She is only 13. Many girls only get them when they are 13 or even 14.
