I see...well perhaps she would collect donations for clothing/toiletries for homeless and donate them to a shelter, or volunteer at a shelter, serving food in the kitchen at mealtimes, these are well supervised. I work at a shelter. My dd and her group will not be seeing the cancer patients due to privacy issues, my dd was dissapointed, she felt it would have been much more personal to give one to a patient, so the box of items will be taken by the teacher. Yes, a school wide efford led by your dd would be fantastic!

Our school does a great deal of environmental stuff, maybe your dd could adopt an area and keep it clean, or teach a group of younger children about recycling or composting, this has been done at our school since it is K-12.

Also reading to younger children, we have a program where the older children go into the younger classrooms and have *book buddies* the older children read to the younger children and the younger children really look forward to their book buddies:) maybe she could contact an elementary school and see if she could get something going such as this?

Service learning is so important this is what our school's philosophy is based off of, so whatever your dd chooses I wish her the best of luck!

Another sort of idea I was thinking of.......

Some sort of interviewing older folks.......advice = things they wish they'd known.

All her grandparents are still living ---- one set in a retirement home.

If someone is willing to commit to nursing home visits for more than the length of a school project, FANTASTIC!

Thx everyone.....I'm throwing em out to her...to see what strikes a cord.....

W/the Nursing Home Idea --- that reminds me ---- W/my other daughter, we'd once talked about getting the residents' childhood home addresses - or whatever home addresses they want......
And showing them those homes ON GOOGLE MAPS DRIVEBY!------that's the thing where you can SEE a driveby view of many addresses ----not every one -but ones which they've had a special 360* camera on a truck peruse most addresses....... Interesting idea, huh?

There's an organization called Dress for Success that provides poor women with interview clothes so they can get jobs, but there's nothing like that for men, at least not in our area.

Surprised Bunny didn't mention this, but how about organizing visits to a nursing home?

Love that song! It does sound like your dd has some good ideas and I hope she is able to pull it off - it would be an awesome project! I'm not very creative when it comes to that visionary stuff but best of luck to her!

Well, now on the way to school, she says she is intrigued by an idea ----- a song by Tim McGraw -----

LIVE LIKE YOU ARE DYING.......

I think it sounds neat --- but we are both wondering how she might put that into a project somehow......

PS ----- Her advisor (who happens also to be Head of Upper School) told her hed' love some sort of bullying survey type project......b/c he himself could use the results. She's not a real SOCIAL gogetter --- so could still think of a twist that way...../.. ;)
