P&PT Please - Fire in Our Area

Well, what I thought were storm/thunder clouds earlier today is actually smoke from a 3,000 acre brush fire burning not far from our home. Several communities in outlying areas have been evacuated and the middle school is being used as an evacuation center.

News reports have been few and rather far between, so I take the lack of reporting to mean that so far, the fire is under control.

Nearly three years ago, the monsterous Cedar Fires blazed into our community and while we didn't lose our home, the whole nightmare experience is still quite fresh in all our minds and I remember all too well how quickly these fires spread. Thankfully, the Santa Ana winds haven't been blowing too much or too hard the past two days so firefighters should have a much easier go of managing the fire.

Anyway ... prayers and positive thoughts would be most appreciated. I didn't actually pack bags tonight, but I did pull them out. Hopefully, we won't be needing them.

Thanks ... Julie

Yikes! I hope all goes well for you! I have friends in California and Colorado and family in Arizona and I know that fires are sometimes a threat when conditions are dry. Good luck!

Sending p&pt your way - we are bound to have fires this summer with these kind of temperatures. Yesterday it got to 113 degrees my way, which is the record, apparently set back in 2001 (where I do remember a sweltering summer). We've been lucky in that the fires that have raged in our community have been in the mountains, and we live in the valley. Good luck.

Hope all is going well!! Last summer, DD could see the fires out her b/f's patio doors. So far this summer, they've been clear. Her b/f's unit is training to fly the helicopters that drop the water. He's very excited about this. Needless to say DD is not so much excited.

Be sure and get copies of all those precious family pictures and put them somewhere safe or make copies and send to a friend that lives in another area. When the tornados hit our home a few years ago, that was my biggest concern - my girls baby pictures were destroyed. My family all got together and made copies of every picture of my kids they had and presented them to me a few months later. By that time, we were so tired from all the cleaning and workmen being underfoot that this was a wonderful blessing for me.

Good Luck and keep us posted (if you can).
