My DD just came home from a cruise that she went on w/ her friend's family. One of the stops was in Puerto Rico, so I asked her if she used any of the Spanish (4 yrs) that she learned in school. She said yes, that when they were in a bar, there was a sign that said (only in Spanish) that you couldn't take any beer out of the bar into the street or there was a $500 fine. I told her she should call her Spanish teacher, who would be so proud that all that education helped her in real life.

I told my mother this story and she said something like this was the first time she tried beer. We all just laughed. This was probably the first time she could drink legally. (Not that I am endorsing underage teenage drinking here. My DD knows I don't like it, but my concern is more for the illegal aspects of it since when I was 18 the drinking age was 18, so if it was legal, I would let her do it.)
