Anyone else's kiddo take the PSAT this week? DD's school offered it on Saturday - mandatory for Jrs. optional for Sophs, but all the Sophs took it (at least all DD's friends did). DH and I didn't talk to her at all about it before hand, other than going over some sample questions. But for both of us (DH and me) it felt so HUGE, the first real step toward going to college. We've talked about it, of course, but this proves that it's not too far away! YIKES!

Anyway, she takes it all in stride, said it wasn't as hard as she thought it would be. She's more worried that she didn't know what major to indicate she would be interested in taking in college.

Yes, my daughter took it on Wednesday. She said quite a few of her friends took it as well. She was pretty relaxed about the whole thing. She said it wasn't bad. She did read through the book that the school gave them so that she would know what to expect but didn't do any of the practice test or questions.
It did make me realize how close college is to being a reality !!

Chelsea took it at school on Wednesday. That day was 'all-school' testing day and sophomores in advanced English classes were given the test along with student in the junior class. How convenient is that?

I don't think she even looked at the test-prep booklet until the car ride to school that day -- but she didn't even know she would be taking it until the Monday before so she didn't have much prep time anyway.

C was VERY confident about how she did on the English portion of the test. On the math portion, not so much. It will be interesting to see if there is as big a disparity on the scores as she thinks there will be. If there is, I guess we'll need to work on balancing them out over the next couple years.

One of C's friends has taken the PSAT every year since 6th grade! Not too driven, is she?

Wednesday must have been the day, because my DD (a soph) also took it. Like Sue's DD, she didn't find it as hard as she thought it would be. For her, it was mostly practice, since she'll take it again next year.

My daughter took it on Wed (soph) and it was mandatory for ALL sophmores, not a choice. The county pays for it here ($12). According to her, everything was "easy" except some of the math - now this surprised her friend who was at the house during this conversation who tells me she didn't finish one part in each section cause it was so hard. Who knows.

Btw, the entire testing got delayed by a couple hours because my daughters bus was hit by a car on the way to school that day. They were stopped at a red light, car hit the front of the bus and left the scene. Everyone was fine, but they had to check each student out then transport to school and notify every parent. Nice way for them to begin major testing ha?
