A Quck OT Fashion Question

DD chose a watermelon pink satin dress for winter formal. It is floor length, strapless, and very, very simple. Aside from a little bit of ruching around the sides of the bodice, there is no ornamentation of any kind. It does have a little bit of tulle underneath, so it's a little poofy near the floor.

Do you think it would be okay for her to use black for shoes and a bag? DD already has black shoes and a black bag from homecoming and I can't think of any other color she could wear with that color that wouldn't make her look like a bridesmaid, and that would save me more running around today.

It has been so dang hot here lately (over 80 yesterday) that I think I can pass on a wrap all together.

Thanks in advance!

I think silver might be a better, more elegant choice.

Oh, I'm totally on board with the silver now! Yesterday, I went out and found a couple pairs of very cute, not too high, silver sandals (one pair will go back!) and after just about completely destroying a display of evening bags, (the shelves and bags came tumbling down all around me when I used one to pull myself up off the floor where I had been deciding between two) I also chose a really neat silver beaded clutch.

I took tobylady's advice to heart -- DD is only in her freshman year of high school. We have several more years of dances, homecomings, formals and proms. DD will be able to use the shoes and bags on other occassions besides this one.

These times, they are a-changin' .... way back in my day, our only choice for evening bags and shoes was using our mothers!

Thanks for your input!

Wow..Thanks..!
That's all new to me.
hmmmm... Is that a take-off on "bodacious"?
"That's a bodacious bodice hun...!" lol....
I'm a bit goofy tonight. Seems all I've been doing is working lately..

No problem. Silver is always a great choice. In high school, I had a pair of black shoes, a pair of silver shoes and a pair of pink shoes, and they got me through all four years (granted my mom paid a pretty penny for nice ones that would hold up). I also had two or three purses/clutches that lasted me throughout high school as well, plus a a small selection of necklace/earring sets. If you spring for it all early, you won't have to do it later.

By the way, if your looking for good makeup for special events, check out M.A.C. It's a bit pricey, but so long as she doesn't wear it every day, its a great buy (plus M.A.C. is pretty heavy so it tends to stay in place all night w/out having to touch it up). And if she wants to do something a little different, try false eyelashes - it gives the impression of smoky, dark eyes without having to cake it on (so you don't have to worry as much about your eye makeup running).

Lastly, if you don't want to spring for an expensive up do, try either a three-pronged crimper or a big, barrel curling iron (I think up-dos are kind of cheesy - leaving hair down is generally sexier and more elegant). With the three-pronged crimper (don't forget to get some hair wax to keep the crimps in place) you'll get more of an edgy feel. With a big barrel curling iron, you'll get a more feminine, flowy look.

With all this saving, you can maybe treat your DD to a manicure and pedicure before the dance.

Also, skip the pantyhose and opt for thigh highs - they're WAY more comfy, especially while dancing.
