A pretty good friend of DD's was in a wreck over the weekend. I knew she was hurt seriously but did not realize how seriously untily last night. She is on the neurology floor and they are allowing her friends and family to visit at any hour, any number at one time, for as long as they want, even though she is in a coma. I've experienced this only once before and the doctors allowed this type of visitation so that her friends and family could come to terms with what was happening before life support was turned off. I've talked to her mom and she stated that there was very little brain activity but that she was hopeful. I'm hoping that I'm reading way too much into all this and that she will wake up and be fine but my head tells me that's probably not going to happen. She might wake up but I doubt she'll be fine. She may face a very hard, long recovery at best.

My best friend went through this when her 10 y/o was hit by a car. Her DD was my oldest DD's closest friend and it was hard for all of us. I've seen this kind of pain first hand and pray that she and her family are strong enough to handle this. I'm being very selfish but I don't want my other DD to have go through all that pain. When she was around 9, one of her real close friends died in a tornado but she handled it pretty well. There was so much distraction with all the damage from the tornado that it took a while for it to sink in to DD. She's older now and doesn't have that distraction - it will hit her quicker and harder this time. Please keep this young lady, her family and friends, and my DD in your prayers. The next few weeks are going to be a very difficult time.

Thanks!

Today is a day of celebration!! Over the weekend, this young lady laughed and began speaking some. Her parents have made the decision to transfer her to a rehab facility in Atlanta - 5 hours away and the made the move yesterday. We are all anxiously awaiting news of the trip. Her father visited several facitilites and felt that this one was the one God has choosen for his daughter.

The family posts frequently on a Web site about her progress and they are so thankful for all the prayers sent for them. Their faith is amazing during this time of grief. Her father wrote one day about how the counselor told them to grieve for the loss of the daughter they had and he wrote about how difficult it was to let her go but then he realized he had a "new" daughter to love and teach and share life with and they would celebrate that opportunity.

So thanks for your many prayers and please continue to keep this family in your prayers. The younger siblings will not have mom at home for several months while she is in Atlanta. Dad will truly become Mr. Mom and they will rack up many, many miles on the family car. Thanks, again!

A quick update - H is now in a live-in rehab center. Their first evaluation upon her arrival was that she already at 90% recovery. This is amazing considering when the accident happened the doctor's feared she would never recover at all. Two weeks after that, the docs thought maybe 80%. The docs at the rehab center have no doubt that she will have a full recovery. She began walking yesterday - no walker - just started walking. It's slow and unsteady but after almost 4 weeks in bed and a broken pelvis - what more could one ask. She is beginning to post to her CarePage (the Website that her dad has been posting updates on) herself.

Saturday DD and I went shopping for prom dresses. It was a 1 1/2 drive so we had some very good car time. During the drive DD told me that she felt that she wasn't where she needed to be spiritually before leaving home for college so she has been praying, reading her Bible and devotions more, etc but that reading H's Web page has brought her a long way. H is Catholic and was pulling out of the church parking lot when the accident happened. H attends a Church of Christ school and her father is a religion professor at a Baptist College. Her father has posted scriptures, prayer requests, etc on the Web site. H's teachers, classmates, and church family have all posted praises and thoughts as well. DD felt that it was amazing that in what is probably the most frightening and terrifying time of H's dad's life that he could still give thanks to God. DD has drawn some strength from this as well.

This family has stated that they know there are prayers from all over the country for them and ask that they continue. Even though H is 90% physically recovered, the entire family still needs support and care in so many ways. Thanks again for all you are doing!!

This is an amazing case. H was released from the inpatient rehabilitation center on Sat. She will live in an apt near the center and continue her treatment as a day-patient. She actually went to the mall and went shopping on Saturday shortly after her release. Her mom is there with her but her dad is here in town with the other children. He commutes on the weekends and was so amazed to see her progress. This is truly one of God's miracles - this young lady was honestly not expected to survive this accident and, if she did survive, was expected to have severe and permanent brain damage. She is now walking, talking, shopping, IM'ing her friends, etc.

Thank you so much for your prayers. The family and I truly believe that all the prayers sent for this young woman have made a difference. One of the first things that she said when she was able to speak was that she knew the "world" cared about her. Her mom thought this was just one of the misspoken words that she had been warned happen to brain injury patients but H has later assured her mom that she said exactly what she meant. She felt prayers from all over while she was unconcious.

Again thank you so much!
