Roll Call
25
Sun, 11-06-2011 - 3:59pm

It's been awhile since we've done a roll call. Regulars, newbies, and lurkers - take a minute to tell us as much or little about your teen, your family, etc. And the bonus question is - what's the weather like where you are these first days of November?

I'm Pam, married to dh for 28 years. We live in central IL. I don't actually have teens anymore but I was cl for this board for years and it's near and dear to my heart. My boys are 21 and 24 and I started lurking here when my oldest was about 12. Older ds is in his first year of med school up in the Chicago area. Younger ds tried college a few times (long story that many of you already know). At this point he's working full time and living at home. He's talking about going back to school in the fall - I think he's the type that's going to have to figure out what he really wants to do in life and if it involves further education he'll do fine. Older ds was the type that just loves learning for learning's sake, not so much younger ds.

With the exception of Thursday when it rained all day it's been beautiful here - in the 50's/60's, sunny and breezy. Kind of gloomy today but still not too cold.

Pam

I am mom of two teens, 17 yo dd and 13 yo ds. So far, the teens have been smooth sailing. Ds, is in hockey now, just finished football and will play lacrosse in the spring. He is in Sunday school and Wednesday confirmatiom class, he will be confirmed this spring. He also plays in band and jazz band. He is in guitar club and a wrinting club. He also mows lawns for a few elderly in the neighborhood for cash. He is also in Boy Scouts. All while being in advanced classes and making the high honor roll.
Dd is waiting for her letters to come in from her top picks for colleges. SHe is hoping for some big, fat scholarships. She plays hockey when she can, it is not a regular league but when they get ice time. She is doing two indoor lacrosse leagues and will play for her school's lacrosse team in the spring. Dd hopes to play lax in college. She finished her tennis team stuff last month for school. She works for our neighbor doing everything from yard work, cleaning the house, washing the dog to reading his essays and corespondence (retired math professor) or going with his wife to pick out home decor. She is there about 6-10 hours during the school year, more in the summer. She also works Fridays after school at a stable in exchange for riding lessons. She is German club, bowling club, President of Gamers club, National Honor Society, German Nat. Honors, art club and Future Teacher's club at school. Though, she hardly ever has time for bowling club, lol, she goes about twice a year. She is still an active Girl Scout and teaches Sunday school. THis while taking 3 AP classes this year and staying on the high honor roll.
We have great weather for Chicagoland, 50's, but rain is coming.

Ramona  Mom to 2 great kids and wife to one wonderful hubby since 1990!

I'm Tracy, DH, the kids and I live in Central Texas. I have ODD Jordyn, 16 and a junior in h/s, DSS Christian, almost 13 and in 7th grade (lives with mom in Michigan), and we have Emma, 4, and Madison, 2.

Weather last week, we had a cold front come through, high 60's low 70's during the day, 40's overnight. But it warmed up into the high 70's this weekend and we finally got some rain yesterday and possibly more today and tomorrow.

SAM here in Chicagoland, married (in 2 weeks) for 34 years. DD1 is 30 & a HS Art teacher; DD2 is 2 months away from being 28, and a mommy. Weather here has been great. Even today, when it's cloudy, it's still in the 60's, so can't complain. Over the weekend, I took the mums and asters out of the pots, and planted them in the garden. With any luck, they'll come back. Before everything freezes hard, I'm gonna put evergreen branches in the pots, making faux trees, and leave them out over winter. I've also been busy getting ready for the baby shower. The theme is circus animals!

Sue in the St Louis area, ds19 is a sophomore at a local private U majoring in studio art, hoping to be an art teacher (plans for MAT post grad).

Weather today thru Wednesday is wet and up in the low/mid 60s. The weekend was quite nice; ds came home for a few hours yesterday and helped rake a chunk of our lot in order to earn money for a video game that comes out this week - he seems to save his work money for gas and his gf, but when he wants something for himself, he tries to earn it from us!

<<>> That's quite an accomplishment! Especially to have all four, at just 18 & 19, be accepted simultaneously into the same law school! One of my gf's daughter had a 50% academic scholarship to MIT, which she maintained for 5 years(she was an RA for 3 years), graduated cum laud, got a 160 on her LSAT, and was only accepted into one law school -DePaul- out of the 5 she applied to. Do you mind telling what LSAT your kids got, and how many schools they applied to?
