School night bed time?

What is a reasonable bedtime for a 14 year old? My son is starting high school this week. He thinks he's too old for an early bedtime, but he has to get up by 6:15am! What time does your 14 year old go to sleep? How does it work for you / them?

My DS is now 16 and usually (see below) handles bedtime on his own. I think when he was a freshman we gave gentle reminders but didn't actually require him to get to bed - he soon figured out what he needed to do to feel good the next day. He doesn't need a tremendous amount of sleep like some teens.
However, LAST NIGHT (today is the first day of school), he didn't fall asleep until around 2:30 a.m.! I think he thought he could just go from bedtime at midnight to bedtime at 10 and then he was so stressed out about not sleeping that he had both of us wandering around, trying to read, me trying to calm him down etc. He finally took benadryl as a last resort.
At 6 this morning he was still very anxious - saying he was sick etc. I basically told him he was probably just tired, that he would get through the day, and that he (and I!) would sleep well tonight!
If you can make bedtime something your teen can control, that's one less thing you don't have to get in a power struggle about!
My teens don't have set bedtimes, but they must be in bed by 11:00 p.m.
Hi there!
I'm having similiar issues with my 13 yr old son who also started High School. He currently goes to bed at 9:00p.m. because he wakes up at 6:30a.m. He has both high school classes as well as college courses. REST is very important to me, yet to him 9:00p.m. bed time is now an issue. He wants to stay up and talk to his friends who do not have a school schedule as he does.
His Jr. High school friends from last year attend High School, where he is now attending a new combined high school and college school.
I'm thinking about extending his bedtime to 9:30p.m. NO MORE.
What's your sons bed time?
Your son seems to show some sign of anxiety.
