DD and her four bffs do an annual gift exchange, and tonight's the night! They set a price limit and then work hard to find the perfect gift for each other. Since they've been a "group" since 7th grade, they know each other really well. Tonight they're gathering at our house, exchanging gifts and indulging in DD's fudge and gingerbread, then they're going out to dinner to celebrate the beginning of vacation! With all their ups and downs this year, it's nice to see them pull together!

Do your teens exchange gifts with friends?

DS15 exchanges gifts with two of his guy friends - one since 2nd, the other since 4th. This year the girl he likes gave him a funny cat calendar; the next day he gave her this beautiful glass paperweight he made last summer...she said he was 'amazing'...now, if only she would ditch her 'boyfriend' (since homecoming; she hangs more on ds than this kid...I told ds to be careful...)

My DD16 usually exchanges gifts w/ a few close friends. She hasn't even mentioned it yet this year, and knowing her, she won't think of it until the absolute last minute. (sigh) Usually, they just go to Bath & Body Works and get each other more smelly lotions, body washes, etc. Sometimes, the smell is so cloying when she goes off to school, but all I say is "Oh, you smell so nice today!!" (And even Santa is putting some in her stocking this year!)

Sounds like a pretty sophisticated evening for 7th grade, how fun!

AAMOF, I spent most of yesterday afternoon with DD's at the mall while they did their shopping for friends. It's not as easy as it sounds, as all the kids have their own unique personality, likes and dislikes. I must say I was more than beat up by the time we got home. After dinner I helped the younger do her wrapping, today they went to school like Santa Claus, with a sack of gifts. The things for their closest friends are under the tree as we are likely to see them.

My son used to do gifts with his friends, but they are older now. They'd rather just hang out...in fact, all the guys who went away to college are arriving home now, it should be a fun weekend!

Sounds fun! And it must be great for your dd to have some solid friendships!

My dd gives gifts to some of her friends, but it has never been as part of any "exchange". I have tried to teach my kids that the point of giving is to give from the heart and not with the expectation of getting anything in return. However, my ds doesn't seem to have reached that point yet, lol!

Actually she's dating a real good swim team friend of his (she was also a swim team 'manager', aka 'timer' in my day!) and he doesn't want to get between them...sigh.

DD decided to avoid all of the "what might she like drama" by making really fancy Christmas cookies for all of her friends.

They chip in together to get something the recipient will appreciate.

My kids do "secret siblings" because of the people who don't celebrate Christmas, and there is a boy involved so it can't be called sisters.
