Have any of you moms with daughters discovered what appears to be the new trend of shaving most or all of their pubic hair? I didn't realize how popular this was until I discovered that my 14 year old DD has been shaving herself bare down there and then did some research on the internet. Does this mean she is sexually active? I would like to confront her about why she is doingf this, but I wanted to get some advice first from some of you moms who have had some experience with this new trend.

My best friend gets a Brazilian wax about every 6-8 weeks. She swears to me that having no hair has really perked up her sex life. She has been begging me to get one with her. From what she describes you are completely exposed so they can get all the hair off. She says it's like going to the gyno. It's very impersonal. But I am like you. In fact I never would even go for a massage because I don't like a stranger's hands on my body, let alone on my girly bits. The shaving it off part doesn't bother me though. I would like to try it to see if I like it. But I haven't plucked up the courage yet.

OK call me a prude/flame me/etc. The shaving down there isn't my thing but I have no problem if other gals want to do it. But the thought of going to a public salon/spa/etc. and 'throwing it all out there' to be taken care of is just an 'eww' factor for me. Of course I'm one that didn't enjoy the one massage I ever got. I like pedicures and would probably like a manicure (although I bit my nails for years but I've pretty much kicked the habit so maybe this year I'll give it a try). But

In our neighborhood in one of the shopping centers a store opened up with the name Brazilian Waxing on the sign out front. My daughter noticed this and that's what got us discussing this in the first place. Hard for me to believe since I come from your generation when this was not an issue or even mentioned.

I had a laugh about the "toupee" comment.

Hardly a "new" trend, since my 27 & 29yo dds have been going bare since THEY were 13 or 14.

I agree with Pam - it seems to be the "in " thing for young women, looked at like we deal with shaving our legs.

There was a thread probably 100+ posts deep about that last year. From what I hear it's quite common for young women (and some older ones) to go 'brazilian' (I think that's what they call it when they shave everything). Not my thing but it does seem prevalent.
